We're saving up for a week in Florida and know that Disney World is absolutely on the list.

Weather wise and crowd wise you'd be better in October.

I'm going the opposite of Shay. It sounds like she lives in the area, though, so she would know better than me. I live in NC where it gets plenty hot and humid. Although, there's nothing to compare to walking around on black asphalt for hours in the FL heat!

We went the first week of May this year. It was very nice, both temperature wise and crowd wise. We've been 6 of the last 7 years, twice in May. The first part of the week was perfect - low 80s. The last 2 days of the week were hot - 90, but thankfully, little humidity; if you were in the shade, you were fine. However, I had 5 or 6 sets of friends that went last Oct. They all went at various times, from the 1st to the 3rd week. They all complained about the heat and humidity. I, personally, cannot do h and h; it does me in and makes my trip miserable. So, I vote for May.

I also agree with Shay about MGM being better for younger kids. A lot of rides at Universal have a 54 inch height requirement. If you're going to be doing all of that driving, I'd probably skip Animal Kingdom. I love it, but if I only had 2 or 3 days, I'd pick MK and Epcot. My kids are 6 and 8, and they absolutely love Epcot, so don't think it's not for children. They wouldn't skip it for the world!

If you haven't already, check out allearsnet.com for anything you ever wanted to know about WDW. You can look at ticket prices there. They just went up. You will need to decide how many days you want to do because it gets cheaper per day, the more days you buy. I'm thinking in your situation, driving an hour each way, I'd not choose the park hopper option. I don't think you'll want to drive anymore than you already are.

Oh, I would definitely rent a stroller. I know you probably think your kids are too old, but they aren't! For the past 3 years, we've rented a double stroller. My 8 yo still wants to ride because it's a lot of walking. Plus, we like to be able to put our stuff in the stroller.

I can't think of anything else at the moment. I'm sure you'll get great advice from some others.
