Surprising kids - our first xmas trip!!

I just booked our next trip!! WL conceirge for 5 days right after christmas!! We're going to surprise the kids too... we've never done that before. I can't decide how to do it either... some thoughts were giving them some kind of gift on christmas that tells them we're going, or not telling them and just getting in the car and telling them on the way, OR waking them up on the 26th and asking if anyone wants to go to disney today... DH likes the gift on christmas thing. maybe a big elaborate box leading down to smaller boxes and a certificate inside that dd can read to ds. any other ideas???

i'm really looking forward to seeing all the xmas decorations!! at first i couldn't decide where to stay, but i thought WL was the perfect winter resort w/ the fireplace, and you 'have' to walk through the lobby and see the tree and decorations to get anywhere (whereas if we stayed at the poly or a moderate, you're in separate buildings and don't go to the lobby unless you want to). Then, of course, the conceirge thing was a last minute thing i blurted out to CRO... i was really going to try to save money on this trip... REALLY!! Oh well, you can't take it with you, right?

Oh, and we went to the beach last week in n. carolina, and someone STOLE my micky/american flag car magnet off the back of my car!! I was so upset! DH said it was probably another disney nut, but i said that couldn't be! someone who loved disney as much as me just wouldn't do that!! anyway, dh was soooo pissed that someone would do that, and i was teasing him saying i needed to go back to disney to get another one, and i couldn't wait till next easter. so he thought about it for a couple of days and surprised me saying we could do a christmas trip! we own our own business, so it's hard for us to get away sometimes, and christmas is our 'season', so we can never go between thanksgiving and christmas. we'll miss MVMCP, but at least we'll get to go! I'm SO excited!! just had to share! now to start making my itinerary :)

That is SOOO cool!!! I'm so jealous!!! LOL I wouldn't care about the crowds - just to be down there when everything is all decorated!!! I think your DH is totally a closet Disney fan LOL And I cannot believe the nerve of the person that stole your Mickey magnet!! And I agree - a true Disney-aholic would never stoop so low nor could they ever do something so mean b/c they would know how much that would hurt if it happened to them! >:(

hey val... i think you're right about my dh being a closet disney-aholic! Maybe he'll have the guts to *come out* someday! LOL!!

and you're right about the kids being disappointed about a big box... that thought did cross my mind, but you saying it too is confirming it for me. Scratch the big box idea! I like your idea about them stumbling on something after they open everything else. maybe a really nicely decorated very small box... a-ha! decorated in disney wrapping paper! oh, with some disney-related items inside. ok - this will be fun putting it together!!

I just made my dinner ressies for the Candlelight Processional too! I thought i was going to miss all the holiday activities - i'm really excited now!! I even forgot about the Osborne Family Lights!! I know the crowds will be crazy everywhere, but in a way it's cool - all the hustle and bustle (although dh hates that). We'll do what rides we can early mornings and park hop and resort hop the afternoons and evenings. I'm SO excited!! I got another good deal on 'first class' for our flights - both ways this time. It was only $200 more total round trip for everyone (so $25 more per person per flight). Even though it's not *really* first class, it's so much more comfy for dh. I think that's the only real difference actually - having 2 seats in the space of 3 seats that are in coach. No hot towels or extra food or service or anything, but we don't need any of that anyway. we're such simple folk :P

Oh, and i'm having a hard time with my will power too! I was looking at pics of WL at xmas, and i couldn't help myself.... i called dd and ds over to the computer to show them. They were both like "we have to go to see that", and of course i'm saying 'oh, you know we can't at christmastime, but we're going at Easter!'... i have to stop or i'll blow the surprise!! I'm sure dh is liking it's a surprise, because i can't talk to him about it in front of the kids - and the kids are ALWAYS right there with us. oh well... at least i have you guys to 'talk' to about it!
