More Packing Thoughts

When we travel next month DS will be 9 months and still drinking formula. I plan on packing some powdered formula and mix as we go, like I normally do.

Which was what I was going to do on the planes, but since you can't bring water onto the planes that puts the ax on that idea. I can come with prepared formula but it has to be kept cool and what if our flights are delayed and things get warm...etc.

DS drinks Enfamil and they have ready to serve glass nursettes for sale. All you have to do is open and enjoy! So my question is...and I am sure you can't answer this, but do you think the screeners will open the containers even though they are labled formula? On the TSA site it says no one will be required to sample the beverage...if you are travling with a baby. I am just worried if they do open them, they will then spoil and I will be out of formula and $. I was thinking about doing it and if they try to open them I will freak out & then I will get arrested for spazing at a TSA agent. I would think that since it is clearly labeled formula and if the pop top isn't popped then we should be OK.

What do you think?

You know you can bring a corkscrew in your carry on but not water. What has this world come to?

I think you have a very valid concern. Maybe call the airline.

I know they sell small bottle coolers at babies r us. You could use that and a small freezer pack to keep the bottles cool. I would think it wouldn't

I would bring the individual powder packets and empty bottles.

I would agree that you can probably get bottled water on the plane; I would call the airline, however, and ask if you will likely be able to get a bottle of water as soon as you board the plane, so you can use it when needed, instead of waiting til you get to the right altitude. It seems to me it would be pretty easy for the FA's to hand out water as they greet you when you get on. I wouldn't be surprised if lots of parents are requesting water upon boarding, too.

I know that on the transatlantic flights last week they were handing out goody bags to parents with children, containing water/juice small toys etc - in lieu of the stuff parents were no longer allowed to carry on. Don't know if the internal US flights are doing this.

It might be as well to take one or two ready made bottles and then powder to mix with formula later if you need it.

My other question is when was the last time you flew with a corkscrew in your hand luggage?? lol! My dad even had his toe nail clipers confiscated last year (goodness knows why he decided he'd need them on the plane anyway LOL!)

They still offer beverages on flights so you will be able to get water to mix the bottle with. Delta gives out bottles, Airtran pours you a cup but you can ask for the bottle. Just ask for one that's not chilled unless baby drinks it chilled. Does Enfamil still make the travel powder where it has one bottles worth in a packet? I know they had them when my oldest was a baby. None of my kids were able to use Enfamil though so I never paid attention to whether they still sold it or not. The reason I ask is becuase a ziploc bag of powder or a playtex liner with powder folded & taped would look a little suspicous and you really don't want to carry several bottles ya know?

The TSA website says that sealed jarred baby food is ok, so I would imagine that sealed jarred formula is ok also. There was one woman I saw in line pull out her tiny bottle of infants Tylenol and verify with the agent that it was ok becuase the website says it's ok, but who knows what mood an agent is in ya know? And one woman behind me got stopped because she had a bottle of water in her bag from her previous flight that she had forgotten about! (bad layover in Atlanta)
