I would only buy it if it was a 10 day and I was planning 2 trips close together to use it. Or like you said, if you had to leave early or ended up sick, to then add it.
It was nice when it was free. We didn't take advantage of it when it was to buy a larger ticket back in 2004. That was before I knew what Disney was all about. LOL.

The advantage comes when, like you said, you're planning 2 trips that are more than a year apart, if they are within a year of each other I'd look seriously at the AP, especially if the total of the two trips was more than 10 days.
Or if there's a situation where your company has conferences in Orlando every year but you really can't take a lot of time off around the conference. You could purchase say an 8 day no expiration and have around 4 years of visits taking only a day or two vacation around your companies conference.
I bought the 10 day no exp. when we went last February even though we don't have another trip planned yet (well I do, but the rest of the family is staying home LOL). The way I figured it, since I was spending $250 for a 3 day ticket I might as well spend $200 more and have a 7 day ticket for our next trip. We were only there for a quick trip last Feb., and one of the days the girls wanted to stay at the resort to swim and use the gameroom...no problem - now we have 8 days for the next trip....or maybe 2 trips of 4....you see, the possibilities are endless!

I added non-exp to our January tickets because I also added the water park option and I am not entirel sure we will use that - might not be the weather for it.
Either way we will likely have at least 1 day + 1 option left on our 7 day tickets so I wanted to be sure we could use them later.

Because we live in Florida and we go to one park for the day. So we are buying the 10 day pass, no expiration. If we go twice a year, then I have paid for 5 years of tickets at this years price. (Which is still much cheaper than just buying a 1 day ticket.)
