Well, it's been 5 years since you've been, so maybe your DS just doesn't know what to expect/think? If I were you, I'd order the planning video that you can get for free from the WDW website. Watch it together. Maybe it will get him excited about going.
Some kids just aren't into amusement parks though. Not that I consider Disney a true amusement park, but you know what I mean. My oldest DS will be 12 in May, and there are still some things he won't do/ride. He hates Tower of Terror and Rockin Roller Coaster. This year, he says he'll try Space Mountain, but I doubt he'll follow through. He's pretty cautious about stuff.
My youngest is pretty much the same as far as thrill rides go. He loves the shows, characters, and family rides. But no coasters, water rides, etc. for him.
The great thing about Disney is that there is so much more to do than roller coasters!! My kids love the shows...and all of the experiences (dining, water parks, etc.)
It sounds like your DH is kind of egging your DS on by saying "your staying home" without even giving your DS a chance to voice his concerns. If you are really serious about going, I'd for sure talk to your son, maybe one on one, and find out why he feels he doesn't want to go. Watch the video together and assure him that it will be a fun trip, and that he doesn't have to ride the things that he doesn't want to ride.

Thank you for your advice.. I did order the dvd and
I agree with Marcy about the DVD - that might help so that he can see what it's all about and perhaps get a little excited about the trip too.
