Hi Everyone,
I am seriously thinking about running at Disney next year, but probably only the 1/2 Marathon. I know it's in January and have accessed the site to register, but I'm too chicken to actually submit my registration!!!

Anyone run it? How was it? Any tips/syggestions?

Thanks!

Jan .............patiently awaiting our WDW trip 5/5-5/10!!!!

There is a post about it in the "Remembering the Magic" section, someone ran it and posted a report about it. I think it was titled "I got my Mickey Medal" or something similar. I thought it was really interesting!

Can't help any more than that, I probably couldn't run a mile, let alone a marathon!

The board member Stephanie is talking about is Mara. Here's a link to her trip report. http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-psdisney&msg=13117.1&ctx=4096

Even though I swore I wouldn't....I registered to do it again! I wish I could say it was about the fitness and health benefits, but it's really all about the medals for me!! 2008 is the 15th anniversary of the marathon so there is a special "commemorative" medal (well, I've GOTTA have that!)

For 2008 my sister and I have registered for The Goofy Race and a Half Challenge. That's when you run the half marathon on Saturday and the full on Sunday. If you complete both races you get a third medal with Goofy on it. So if all goes right I'll have the Donald, Mickey and Goofy medal....but lately the only character I've been like is Sleepy! (if only there were dwarfs named hungry and lazy - I could earn their medals too!)

It's really a great experience - 2008 will be my third marathon weekend. For anyone that is just thinking about thinking about it I say go for it! You have to keep a 16 minute per mile pace to complete the half of full, which is really just a brisk walk. You could walk it, or do a combination walk/run and finish in plenty of time. We will probably walk the half marathon.

If you have any questions not answered by the mammoth trip report just let me know and I'll try to answer them.

Mara,
Wow! Congrats on running again! I'd love to be in the shape required to do the Goofy Challenge. Maybe someday.....

How long have you been running? At what pace?

Well, after some contemplation, I decided that the 1/2 was too much right now. Instead, I'll be signing up for the 10K Race For The Taste in Epcot during Columbus Day Weekend. I figure DH and I can make it a kind of "get-a-way" weekend without the kids (although I'm having a hard time deciding how to tell the kids that we'll be at WDW without them!).

We'll actually be vacationing there from May 5-11th, but I didn't realize the Minnie Challenge was during this time. Maybe next year...........

Have you ever run the Disney 10K? Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Jan
