planning our way around AK?

Well our May 10th trip is sneaking up on me! please bare with my I think I'll do this for each park so for those of you that find the time to be my virtual tour guide we'll love you forever!! Or atleast through May!!LOL!!

AK I think will be the "big" park for my kids, the boys are both animal fanatics, go to day camps at the zoo etc... so where some people are bored here the exploration trails are high on my kids lists. So here are the things we hope to see. Do you really think we can do it all, be honest we can lower our expectations dramatically!!LOL!!

We start out the day with breakfastasourus at 8am. The things we want to see and in the order of family fav's (each picked 3 things) are:

Rafiki's planet watch (I told ya my 11yr old wants to be a wildlife vet!)

Kilimanjaro's safari

Dinosaur

Mahargah jungle treck

Panfani Forest expedition

Finding nemo musical (edited to add this!) thought it was at epcot, oops!)

Kali River Rapids

Festival of Lion king

flights of wonder

primeval whirl

triceratops spin

pocahantas and friends

Expedition Everest (yes this is potentially at the bottom of the list, they're not big roller coaster kids at all, they like the water rides and spinning stuff but fast screaming or upside down stuff and they won't go on it! so they wouldn't be dissapointed not to go on it, I would though! But I can get over it!!LOL! I guess that's why there's something for everyone right?!

So what order would you hit everthing? any particular way around the park?

we plan on staying until close unless we get tired and need a break and go back to the hotel. we have dinner at WCC at 6pm. so there's room for a nap! then after dinner maybe DTD for the boys and some shopping for me and Abby, so I guess I nap from 3:30-5ish would be good!

Thanks! I'm a planning geek sorry! but I know I'm in good company here!!LOL!!

OK, here's 2 suggestion:

1.

  • Most of the stuff at the top of your list is over in Africa, so after breakfast I would stand next to the CM with the rope closest to Asia. When he drops his rope, head around the backside of the tree of life to get to Africa (stopping to get a FP for either EE or Kali). You'll be out of breakfast right around the time the park opens and they're doing their opening show so if you went around the front side you'd be caught in the throngs of people behind the show heading to Africa. Going the backway you'll be ahead of the throngs heading to Asia and your only company will be the other breakfasters.

  • Ride the safari

  • explore Pangani Expedition trail

  • Rafiki's opens at 10, it will probably be close enough to that now to go up the path to the train station.

  • As a CM if they are perfoming any vet services that am and then become shocked when you look at your watch and realize how long you've spent there.

  • Train back to Africa

  • Head to Camp Minnie Mickey for Festival of the Lion King show - aim for 1140 unless you miss it in Conservation Station

  • then Pocahontas & her Forest Friends at 1220

  • snack or lunch

  • go back towards Africa and take the back path again to Asia,

  • get soaked on Kali (think ponchos!)

  • dry off while you explore the Majarajah Jungle Trek

  • backtrack a little for the 200 Flights of Wonder

  • decide on using the EE fast passes (or getting some now if you didn't earlier and there are still some left)

  • Finding Nemo (315)

  • All that's left is Dinoland - so if needed you could split up here and take Abby back for a nap

I am the planning queen when it comes to disney!!!
Here is what we do and it works great. We get there right at opening..hit the safrai first thing! usually only a 20 minute wait, if that. When you get off the safari the Jungle trek is right there so we usually do that. Rafikis planet watch usually has little to no line to get out there, There isnt TONS to see out there, but its a good spot to meet some charachters. The rides in dino land are usually much shorter if you hit it during the parade or really late in the day. Keep in mind that the Dinosaur ride can be REALLLY scarey for the little kids. it scared me!!! LOL. We didnt see any of the 3-d shows or musical shows this time because we've seen them all. I noticed "tough to be a bug" wasnt on your list, thats a REALLY good 3d show:). I LOVEEE animal kingdom. all the little trails threw "the oasis" are awesome. justin (6) LOVED exploring those! Camp minnie mickey is a GREAT place to meet goofy and pluto and mickey..just dont go right before the lion king show or right after..too busy:)

Thank you too Amy, it's great to get different ideas of how and when to hit things! Was Austin able to go on the safari? I'm assuming Abby can right? she's 20 mon.?
