Dining Plan tip for those with kids!

We just got back from our latest Disney trip, and we absolutely loved being on the dining plan! It was so much fun to try out restaurants that would normally be out of our price range. Here's a tip for those interested in the dining plan with kids...you do NOT have to order off only the kids' menu for counter service! The table service credits are restricted to kids' meals only, but the counter service can be anything. Many days we had our girls (5 and 8) split a CS meal, and then we were able to use the "extra" credit for them to split breakfast the next day. Just thought I'd share for those planning a trip!

Wow! I had no idea that was the case. That would be awesome. I have three kids and we could definitely get more mileage out of our counter service meals that way. We only have one TS breakfast, but my kids love to eat out breakfast, I just didn't want to waste counter service meals on breakfast.

Thanks!

Thank you for posting this Amy. I'm still dealing with the dilemma of whether or not to get the DDP, so I appreciate your input. It'll be DH (who is the reason for all our TS ADRs), DS9 (who's not an adventurous nor a big eater) and me (who would love to try out all sorts of things but also is willing to live on one CS a day plus cereal in the room and granola bars during the day, as long as we save $$!) So it's a tossup.

We were at WDW from June 28th until July 10th. Here's a list of the counter service places that we ate at that I can remember....

AK - Flame Tree BBQ and Pizzafari
MGM - Backlot Express, Catalina Eddie's, Pizza Planet
Epcot - Sunshine Seasons
MK - Cosmic Ray's and Pecos Bill

Our receipts for all of our TS meals came separately (Adult/Child), but all of our receipts for CS meals were together with no distinction between the two. DH had read this tip from a number of people on allearsnet.com prior to our trip, and we didn't have any problem ordering adult meals for the girls at all.

Ditto what Amy said for us too. We were there in May (mother's day week) and the only place we really had difficulty was the Pop food court. We had one CM who reminded us that we could only use children's CS credits for kids meals. We were only buying 3 adult meals that day and splitting (one of the few times we did this!)

They don't divide kids/adult credits on the receipts, but they do have on your card how many kids and how many adults. So if we went to a CS restaurant, we could only by 3 adult meals at one time, since our card said 3A, 1C. Usually, we got 4 meals at a time, so one of them had to be a kids meal. Hope this makes sense!! But, if we had wanted to, we could have split 3 adult meals between the 4 of us, and in the long run, used all of our credits towards adult meals.

FWIW, I even checked on this at concierge after my little lecture from the CM at Pop food court, and they told me that the kids/adult CS credits are not divided up.
