I posted this first on the Universal board, ooops!! Hope you ladies can help...
i'm planning our 2nd trip to DW and we'd like to go in December, possibly Nov, any suggestions on when it's not so busy during these months?
I looked on their website and they have The Wonderful Weeks of Disney which is when it's supposed to be lighter crowds. Anyone have an experience in DW during Nov or Dec? I heard that the week before and after Thanksgiving are the busiest of the year, and also around Christmas, but I don't know if thats true. The last time we went was in May, so I have no idea!
I was tenatively looking at Dec. 7th - 13th...TIA :)
Ooohhh...also does anyone know anything about Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party? I saw on the website that you have to buy additional tickets for this? Anyone know exactly what it is? Thanks
~Virginia~

We've been at the first/second week of December for 4 trips. LOVED IT! Unfortunately, now, at that very time is the Pop Warner Super Bowl. It's a football championship for tweens complete with cheerleaders, so all these kids that age who have families also visit the parks during that week, which I've heard has changed the dynamics of that time of year. Still not bad, but not what it was the 4 years in a row that we went.
Weather is usually good at that time...not too cold, not too hot, but be forewarned...it can be EITHER too cold or too hot. We went one year and were sweating and had to buy shorts there, the week before, they were selling truckloads of sweatshirts because it hit near freezing temps.
The holiday happenings are out of this world!
Actually, Thanksgiving week is quite tame (but still busier than the week before & after) compared to Christmas/New Year's which is the busiest of the year.
The Christmas party gives ticket holders only 5 hours to enjoy Magic Kingdom with extra holiday activities as well as many of your favorite rides.

Thanks Alysha :O) That definitely helps! I think we might give it a try the 2nd week of Dec. I really want to go for the Christmas stuff, so hopefully it won't be too bad! Thanks again :O)

Four of our trips have been during that second week of December. I suggest you GO GO GO!!!! It is the most wonderful time to be there. Not crowded, POP is ending at the beginning of the second week, the decorations are awesome. The weather is a toss up at that time....one year we had 90+ degrees each day, other years we were in stocking caps and gloves. Otherwise, I have nothing negative to say. :) Just to see the *snow* in MK and the lights at MGM is worth the trip during the holiday season.
I recommend the MVMCP, too. It's a wonderful time. It officially starts at 7 pm, but you can get in at 4 pm with your ticket. We always visit downtown Disney or hang out at the resort the morning and early afternoon of the party, and then we enjoy MK from 4 pm until midnight. It's about the same amount of time you'd have in a park for the day...and comparable price-wise. The kids love the cookies and cocoa, the shows, and the special parade.
Have fun planning!
(** Now that I went back and read Alysha's message, I see that I probably just could have said "ditto"! LOL!)

Thank You!!! I just have another question about the MVMCP, for the day we want to go do we only buy tickets for the party, not tickets to get in the park? For example if we were going to visit for 5 days, should I only buy park tickets for 4 then tickets for the party for 1? Sorry, i'm confusing!! Lol
Thanks again!!
Virginia
LOL...birds of a feather....

You can buy park tickets for the day or not. You don't have to have park tickets for the day, and you can still get in around 4ish for the party (not before). Or you can buy tickets for the day and go all day, but I think I'd rather sleep in & relax beforehand.
We never did it because when we went in December, Aly was almost 3, almost 4, almost 5, and almost 6 (her bday is Dec 26), and we would go to the parks early and stay until Epcot's close at 9:30.
Would definitely do it now if given the opportunity!

Hi Virginia! I wanted to chime in for November.

Hi again!
We've done it both ways with the MVMCP - park tickets AND MVMCP tickets in the same day, and then just MVMCP tickets. I much prefer just making the day about the party. Eight hours is plenty for us (well, for the 4 kids....DH and I would be happier longer!), esp. if we visit downtown Disney beforehand. Last year, my girls had the salon treatment beforehand, which was wonderful. They were able to attend the party looking all fancy and feeling special.
