I want to make t-shirts for my crew

The kids already think it is a hokey idea, but I hope that they might change their minds when they see the design. I can't believe that they won't buy any character t-shirts. I saw a couple wearing matching Disney shirts at a local amusement park a couple of weeks ago; then I saw some in Wal-Mart and thought I could do better than that.

Any good clip-art websites? Free or otherwise? Any other ideas for making nice designs?
TIA.

I;m just now in the process of finishing all of ours (and we're leaving tomorrow! So now I have to wait literally for the iron-on transfers to cool down before packing! Always the procrastinator!)

Rather than clip art sites, I just googled for images of what we wanted and always got a large selection. I wish I'd thought of taking pictures of them before packing, but I'll post some when we get back from our trip!

We did 5 sets for DH, DS9, and I.
White shirts are the first we did, all the same with a graphic of the 4 park icons, and then "Wald Disney World" all 3 of our names, and our trip dates, all in Disney font (which you can also google and download for free!)
A Nemo set of blue shirts has one character for each of ours, a saying, and then below in a smaller font "Walt Disney World" and the dates of our trip. DS's has Nemo and "Hi, I'm Nemo";DH's has Crush and says "Whoa, dude!..The name's Crush", and mine has Dory and "Hi, I'm Dory...Hi. I'm Dory!...Hi, I'm Dory!"
A bright yellow set has maps of the parks on them! (DS inspired the idea when he saw my map copies from Passporter and asked if those were shirt transfers as I'd been doing some of that, too!) I didn't use the same maps for the shirts but was able to find a website with really nice colorful maps (without any labels or numbers on them other than for the lands). DS picked the MK, I picked Epcot and DH has AK (no MGM map shirt for us I guess...but we're still going to the park! ;) We also added our own names and the date thing to the bottom right corner.
On the pale yellow shirts I put a graphic DH made of our 3 pictures cropped to circles and put together in the shape of a Mickey head (does that make sense?) where DH and I are the ears and DS is the head. That one just has the name of the shirt owner below (for DS) or above (for DH and me) the picture. It's terribly dorky (as are they all!) but I think cute!
Finally our lime green set has a small iron-on embroidery applique (sp?) for each of us, picked up at JoAnn's fabrics (Goofy for DH, Mickey for DS, Minnie for me) right where the pocket would go if the shirts had pockets, along with our name on Disney font (this one's the most discrete other than for the color of the shirt!)

I wanted to make more, like an Incredibles set, a Jungle Book set (a family favorite, and DH even got a Baloo one from the Disney store, I just wished they had Mowgly for DS but they didn't...anywhooo I still hadn't decided if I wanted to be Ska or Baghira or even King Louie LOL) and more park-specific ones...but it didn't happen. Anyway I hope that gives you some ideas. If you google "handmade Disney shirts" or something like that you'll find a bunch of interesting ideas out there. Just take it from me and START EARLY, don't follow my bad example and wait for the last minute unnecessarily!!!

Wow, FIVE SETS?!? Here I thought 1 set was ambitious LOL.

Your descriptions sound clear to me :D.

I know I won't find my extended-plus-size shirts at the shops. And even if they do carry my size t-shirts, I HATE t-shirts; they are too high on my neck, and the sleeves are too long for my comfort, etc., I much prefer tank-tops, which I usually buy through the plus-size catalogs. So I started out thinking I'd make one for myself. Then when I saw that couple with matching shirts, the gears (in my head lol) started turning ...

I thought I'd start with white shirts, since I just ordered a white tank-top, and it's a bit sheer for my comfort; I thought if I covered the front with an image, it would be better.

Here's what I've come up with so far. I found an image of a genie-type magic lamp with a blue "smoke cloud" coming out of the mouth. I found a clip-art of the year number, 2007, where the zeros form the ears of a Mickey head with the head-part below the 2007 part ... after all, our trip is at the end of 2007 :D. That's in the middle of the smoke cloud. Then I found a clip-art of a Mickey Mouse leaning on an upturned, bent left elbow, and I positioned it to look like he's leaning on the handle of the magic lamp. I found a smaller one of Pooh, sitting and leaning oh HIS upturned, bent left elbow, so I positioned that so it looks as if Pooh is leaning on Mickey's shoe. I have a tiny Flounder image that looks as if he's sniffing the top of the handle of the lid of the lamp (ok, it's kind of like a cross between a magic lamp and a teapot lol), and a tiny Ttinkerbell at the very top with her wand pointing down to the "2007". Does that make sense? I was thinking of searching for something with Genie to tie in with the magic lamp background. I also wanted to include as many other characters as I could fit in, so I'm off to Google-land :D.

You're lucky. Nine years old is still young enough to HAVE to stay with Mom & Dad. My kids are 21 (22 by the time we go), 20 & 15, and they all have their own cell phones, etc. They hardly want to hang with us, let alone wear matching t-shirts LOL. I hope that they will think they are so cute that they'll wear them anyway LOL; a Mom can hope, can't she :D? Anyway, they can have them for souvin'ears' and sleep in them, right?

When we went in may 2005, there were 8 of us so I got yellow shirts, (no names as we didnt want to chance the whole I know your name, so I must know you phenom) and on the back I did an iron on transfer that was a globe (earth) and had mickey ears on the globe, and in circular font it said "Our Walt Disney World Family Vacation 2005" We got LOTS of comments, and even took our pic,(from the back of course)looking @ Cinderella castle. So maybe thats what I will use this next time as an iron on. It was only 1 day so the teen boys( we only have boys) and the college grad(the reason for the trip, like I need a reason) and DH couldn't really complain. the other option was Mickey Ears on EVERYONE for an ENTIRE DAY! They picked the shirts. LOL!

Allison, I am ROFLMBO at the thought of giving my kids the choice of "ears-for-a-whole-day" or t-shirts :D!

Hmmmmm! I wonder if they WOULD pick the shirts? That's an idea ....

I'll keep y'all posted :D.
