Disney World in June- Have you done it?

We are planning a family Disney World vacation for next June. June is really the only time we can go. Pulling our 5 children out of school is not an option since 1 is in high school and 1 is in 8th grade. They won't miss school. We are looking at June 8th to June 14th of 2008. Has anyone "been there, done that"? Does it rain a lot in June? I know it will be hot but with staying onsite hopefully we can go in the early morning, hit the pool in the afternoon, and then return in the evening. I would appreciate any thoughts on this. Also, is June more or less crowded than spring break time?
Thanks in advance!

Yep, did June once. Here's my opinion (and it's only an opinion):

It will be hot, it will be crowded (not sure if more than spring break, but possibly), BUT, if it's the only time you can do it, it's STILL WORTH IT! Any time at Disney is worth it. The key to going at a peak time or an unpleasant weather time (or both, lol) is having a positive attitude. Walk into it knowing that it will be hot and crowded, but darnit you're gonna have fun. If you go expecting low crowds, pleasant weather and short lines in June, you will be miserable. Expect to wait in hot crowded lines, but tell yourself it will be fun anyway, and you will still have a blast. It's all in the attitude.

Enjoy!!!!

We went in June once. We went around the 19th or so, back in 2002. At the time, I said I'd never go in June again. Of course, my kids were young at the time, so pulling them out of school for Disney trips was "no biggie". We went back three times after 2002, and pulled them out each time (May 04, September 05, and May 07).

My oldest is going into 7th grade, and we will no longer pull him out of school for vacation. Middle school is too fast paced, and he missed so much last year, it was hard for him to catch up (and this was in the middle of May, when they only had 3 weeks of the school year left!). He actually begged me to never take him out of school for a vacation again.

When we go back to Disney again, it will have to be either June, July, or August. Of the three months, I'd rather go in June.

The year we went in June, it rained every day. It wasn't just that afternoon shower that is common for Florida. It was torrential downpours all day long. Nearly every picture we have has us wearing our ponchos. The day we left, the sun came out (of course!). One good thing about the rain is that it kept the heat down. It was humid, but it was not hot. I don't remember the crowds being awful. But again, the parks tended to empty out with all of that downpouring rain. I don't know where people went, but we stayed in the parks and tried to make the best of it. I remember the locals saying that it had been the rainiest June on record. Figures that it had to be for our week at Disney!

The crowds can get large, and the heat can be high. I think if your prepared for that, and resort to the "it is what it is" thought, you'll have a great time!

June is hot, humid and it rains just about every day. Some days it's the 10-15min showers that Florida is famous for, other days it could go on for hours. Just bring your ponchos to the park every day and you will be fine.

But I do agree with what JoAnna said though, if you expect it to be hot and crowded, you won't have too much disappointments.

Have fun planning your trip and if you need any suggestions or have any questions, feel free to ask away.

Hi there (this is my first post on this board!),
I have done Disney in early June, and I too have since said "never again". BUT my kids are still small enough that taking them out of school for 3 days is not a big deal. Like everyone has already said, it is hot hot hot. Now, I was 7 months pregnant when we went so you may not be as sensitive as I was. It did rain, but only briefly and it was a welcome relief from the heat. I have been to the MK each year since, but at a different times of year, and early June was by far the most crowded. Despite all of these things, my family had a great time :) If that is the only time that you can go, then do it! My advice would be similar to what pp have said--have a good attitude, be prepared to spend $$$ on drinks/water, and bring ponchos. I would also reccomend mapping out a plan of what is important to your family to see and do those things ASAP. I remember the park getting much more crowded after noon-1pm, so try to get there super early.
Enjoy your trip,

kay
next trip coming early Oct.

We haven't been there in June, yet, but we'll be there in June of '08 (2nd-11th) and I'm going in knowing it will be hot and humid and crowded and I'll deal with it. We have been to Disneyland the week of Thanksgiving, during Spring Break, and during the summer and I heard SOOO many "it's awful, it's awful" reports about all those times that I was prepared for the worst and honestly, it never seemed all that bad to me. So I'm going to Florida next June with the same attitude--prepare for the worst and hope for the best and whatever will be will be. Who cares, really, I'm at Disney!!

(DH and I are both teachers and not allowed to take more than two days off at a time and never next to any long weekends, etc., so school breaks are our only options for vacations, regardless of whether or not we could pull our own kids out. Until we retire in twenty years, we'll be there at peak times.)

DH and I are both teachers, so going in the summer is really the only option for us. We've been there in June and July. It's hot, humid, rainy and crowded...BUT IT'S DISNEY, so who cares?!? That's my opinion. We just make sure that we get an early start each day, spend the morning hitting as much as we can while the lines aren't too bad, hit some indoor stuff or head back to the resort for the afternoon, and trek back out for the evening. Carry ponchos or umbrellas to deal with the inevitable rain showers every day, and you'll be fine.

Enjoy!
