I was wondering... If I purchase a package from disney (room, ddp and tickets), and say I (due to lack of $)only purchase a 3 day ticket with water park option. If at the time of travel, or before hand,I can afford to spend more, can I upgrade to an 8 day w/ water park option and no expiration? If this is possible, would I be taking a loss doing so, or would it be exactly the same difference, as if I had bought them before, I especially wonder how it would work with the no expiration part. Any advice would be great.

Yes you can upgrade your ticket at anytime before they expire.
If you add the no expiration option you pay the fee for the entire length of the ticket. So if you had a 3 day ticket and upgraded to an 8 day you'd pay the no expiration on the 8 day. If you have an 8 day and use 5 leaving only 3 and decide to add no expiration you still pay the price for the 8 day ticket.
