It is only guaranteed for families--parents and kids. As soon as you add other adults (like grandparents) to the ressies, they do not guarantee connecting rooms. We ran into this problem on our last trip since we brought my mother with us. I thought it was crazy since I also have 4 kids and it wasnt like we could cram in one room and I wasnt going to leave my 74 yr old mother to watch them in another room that may or may not even be close to us!!!
well, I must admit I could not take the chance...so I added my mother on the ressie as a child..I am not trying to make excuses but it would have been completely unfathomable for us not to get connecting rooms..My father passed away earlier this year and my mother was very dependant on him, we brought her to try & help her not have her babysit my kids. plus like I said I have 4 young children including one with major special needs. There was NO WAY I could have split us up and either left all the kids with DH in one room, or put some in with my mother...It would have ruined the vacation. So, even though many may be against my decision, it was the only way I could guarantee connecting rooms.
That's funny, I was wondering how wrong it would be to add another non-paying infant on to our reservation since it wouln't effect anything but our guarentee.
I was a bit worried about the magical express, too. Since she had a voucher because she was on our ressie, it was no problem..I am not sure if they count infants in the head count..

Rooms are only garunteed when it is a single family with only 2 adults and the number of children outnumber the adults.
