Anyone been to DL Paris?
| Sun, 08-19-2007 - 6:11pm |
Hi all. I got some really great advice here when we lived in Fl, so now that we're in Europe I thought I would come back w/ more questions:)
We're only a couple of hours from DL Paris, so I was wondering how big it is and if I should bother with accomodations to stay for a weekend or if I should just make it a day trip? We would need at least 2 rooms so I'm wondering if the expense is worth it.
TIA,
Monica

Again here only hearsay not personal exprience. I know my (ex) BIL has taken his dd and my nephew at different times.
They were travelling from Britain and stayed for a week so they did stay in a hotel close by.
I was under the impression that it was only one park, but I would think that unless you lived really close by it would be worth making a proper trip out of it and staying for a couple of nights in a hotel.

I was there for one day in 2000. DH was stationed in Germany at the time and the MWR did a bus trip. I don't remember a lot about the trip except that I felt like I was in America again since I was at Disney.
Have a great trip!

Like most of the other responses this is NOT BTDT however seeing that you're two hours away, I'd plan a one-nighter, and I'll tell you why. When I have overseas visitors here in Portland, OR I sometimes like to take them to Seattle for a day trip. It's a three hour drive each way, and it's EXHAUSTING but well worth it if you don't mind leaving super early in the morning, making the most of the morning, afternoon and evening there, then driving back super late at night. This means we leave home at 5 am or so, return around midnight or 1 am...with any Disney park I would think you'd want to have the early morning hours to experience smaller crowds, the afternoon for shows, parades, etc and more rides...and the evening for fireworks and other entertainment. That plus the drive each way would make for an exhausting day with kids. I don't think you said their ages but if you have too many people for one room (and your name says six kids!) I'm guessing also the bigger the group the more time you want to allow to not be running around with a large group. So if the budget allows I think the saner way to do it would be to drive say, Saturday morning after a good night's sleep, enjoy the park from noon or so until it's time to go check into the hotel (and perhaps take a short break), then go back to the park for the evening and night entertainment, spend the night, then be ready to check out first thing in the morning and make the most of your time at the park until lunch or whenever you're ready to leave for good. If that's too much for the budget (since you'd also need 2 park days instead of one, besides the two hotel rooms for that one night), I'd try and plan a veeery relaxed and early bedtime the night before attempting the "kamikaze trip" as described above (and a very relaxed day following, hopefully without school or work, etc)...or that could make for a very very tiring week following! Just my $.02
By the way that's great that you live in France now, where exactly, and how long have you been there? How do your kids like it there?
Actually, we're in Germany, but we live about 20 minutes from the French border. We've been here for a little over a year now. We love it. We took a cruise in April and visited Italy, Spain, Africa, and France. We drove through Switzerland and it is absolutely breathtaking (even my 15 y.o. thought it was awesome, and at his age he's not impressed with much - LOL!) It took us about 4 hours to drive to Paris, so about 3 would get us to DL. There are, I think, 3 areas in the park...Disneyland (Magic Kingdom), Disney Studios (MGM) and, I think it's called Disney Village, which is basically the shopping area like Downtown Disney. I'm excited because a friend told us they have Space Mountain 2, which is a newer version of Space Mountain, so we're excited about that. I know they have Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the teacups and such. I'm excited to see what they have that is different. Okay, now I'm rambling. Thanks for the comment!
