For a 2 1/2 yo you can consider renting a Disney stroller.

I would not advise renting a car.

* I read somewhere recently (Probably Unofficial WDW with kids) that taxis WILL require you to have a car seat if the child is under 6.

I am all for strollers! I too, can not imagine having to carry all of our stuff :) Even at 5, my DS rode most of the time during our last trip. I was lucky enough to find some used Maclaren strollers for less than what it would have cost me to rent a stroller for the week. I highly recommend them if you can find one! They have a higher weight limit (usually 45-55 lbs), which means you can use it longer, fold up like an umbrella, but ride smoothly and have taller handles than a typical stroller. Depending on the model, some recline, some have a canopy, and all that I have seen have a small storage basket underneath the seat. My DH loved them because they were so much easier than a larger type stroller that we'd taken the year before.

Have a great trip!

I probably should have been more specific...

My "umbrella" stroller I described with little storage space isn't a true umbrella stroller,

I could not live w/o my Graco Metrolite! We take it everywhere with us. DS will be three next month but he is a lightweight so we can still use ours. I LOVE the large basket and cup holders and the fact that DS finds it so comfortable that he will still fall asleep in the stroller. We even go against conventional wisdom and take it with us on planes. I have tried so called upscale light strollers and I just don't like them. The Graco Metrolite drives like a Cadillac - it has such a smooth ride I can't imagine having any other stroller. As for taxis, we always travel with our carseat. My DH, in all of his wisdom (NOT) insisted we not take it to San Fran w/ us b/c DS did not have his own seat on the plane and we would be relying completely on public transport when we got there. And guess what, when we got back home we could not find a taxi driver to take us back home. They all refused to transport a child who was legally supposed to be in a carseat. So DH had to go home in a taxi, get our car, and come back to get us. Thank goodness we live less than five miles from the airport. He learned his lesson then.
