Anybody know anything about CLA?

I saw someone buying a bottle of CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) when I was at the pharmacy this morning (regular refill, nothing new) so I did a little looking on the internet this morning. Supposedly it's a fatty acid found primarily in butterfat and red meats that is being researched for its antioxidant properties, but also because it tends to inhibit fat deposition and promote lean body mass.

Has anybody heard anything REAL (not advertising) about CLA? I'm just curious. I would never abandon healthy eating or exercise, but I'm curious as to whether there is any merit to it.

It looks interesting. I just looked on-line, too. There are some articles from universities, like OSU and UCDavis, among other places.

I think the advantage of taking a supplement for this is that you'd have to eat a lot of red meat and whole milk to get the advantage (which would defeat the purpose). The second article says you need to take 4 tablets a day for the effect. That alone would deter me. I'm having enough trouble remembering to take the ones I do once a day.

On another note, I have heard that alpha-linoleic acid is good for brightening up your face as you get older (that's probably not a concern for all you young'uns).

I have been taking CLA for quite some time now - at least 6 months, sorry, I can't remember now when I started...

I really do think it has been helping!
