Learned a New Trick for Squats

An aerobics instructor at my gym showed us a great way to do squats. When you are doing them, put some free weights (plates) under your heels. So your heels are only about 1-2 inches off the ground (leaving your toes on the floor) and do your squats as you normally would. It really makes a difference you can feel your butt and back of your legs working harder than when you do a squat without them. Plus for me it made me feel like my form was 100% better. Try it!

sounds interesting. make sure when you are doing that, though, that you still have your weight in your heels. don't let that cause you to put your weight forward over your toes.

I just gave it a try and it does target a different area. Thanks! I agree w/ jen that you need to make sure to keep your weight on your heels, and not the balls of your foot. We did one in a class on the bench where you put your toes off the bench to make sure to keep the weight on your heels. It wouldn't work with the plate, though!
