Did you see the previews for a new comedy--I can't remember what it's called but it's on regular network TV.

i heard britney spears has an asian character that doesn't mean what she thought it meant. i can't remember exactly but it was something like she thought it meant courage and it actually meant stubborn or something like that.

you'd be surprised at how many stepford wives have a rose or a dolphin or something. i have a name for those kind of tattoos but it's not pc enough for this board.

undone, if you want to look at tattoos and get some ideas there are a lot of tattoo magazines, and also alot online. the main piercing/tattoo website is www.bmezine.com (warning - don't open while at work - it shows tattoos in ALL parts of the body)

you know what would be cool for you instead of an asian character is a greek letter or something else with a greek associaton. i really like the idea of celebrating one's own heritage on a tattoo or at least a heritage that one feels really connected to, rather than one they have little connection to.

that said, asian characters do make cool tattoos! if you get one, i'd definitely ask a native speaker to double check that it means what you think it means. my friend has a japanese character on her lower back that means something like "strength from work ethic" - that's the thing about alot of asian characters, a lot of them are difficult to translate directly into english because they have very specific connotations. compared to a lot of languages (including ancient greek, don't know about modern greek) english is very lackluster and clumsy as a method of communicating nuance.

I once saw a guy at a party with chinese characters that were put on BACKWARDS (stupid artist slapped the stencil on the wrong side I guess) I felt so bad, I wanted to tell the guy but of course I couldn't.

My chinese character tattoo is VERY special. It is my chinese name (I actually have a genuine chinese name), written in my mom's handwriting. When I asked her for the writing she didn't know what I was using it for, haha! And the artist who did it is actually chinese (http://www.daweitattoo.com/) so I KNEW he would never put the stencil on backwards!

By the way, it's too crazy that you spent big bucks getting your hair straightened to look like mine and I've paid upwards of $200 to get mine to look like yours.

I have a Chinese character on my lower back that supposedly means "protect" (I was doing some not-so-nice things to my body at the time, and it was a good reminder to me to take care of myself better) --- but I mostly got it because it looks like my initials intertwined in lowercase writing. :) Depending on what mood I'm in, I'll either tell people what it supposedly means or that it's my initials. hee hee.

Good luck, let us know what you decide! And I agree w/the rest of the ladies - you are a knockout! Way prettier than the bitchy girl you tricked everyone into thinking you were.

Here's another face to put w/the name... http://client.webshots.com/photo/232607638/232607861oZzeSx
