Have you guys noticed that it's become open season with the low rise stuff? When it came out, mostly the stick people wore them but now everyone's wearing them and Jen's right... overflowing adipose tissue isn't attractive regardless of your age. Same thing with the belly shirts too.... I've noticed a lot of the younger girls (like pre teen and high school age) are wearing them and a lot of them have pooches. They almost walk like they're sticking out their bellies on purpose (and maybe they are... I'm just out of the loop).
but maturing gracefully doesn't mean maturing frumpily! if you've got it, flaunt it - at any age.
i love lower rise pants too, because for some strange reason they tend to fit me better - they are more likely to fit around the waist than high waisted. plus, they are much more comfortable, especially with a navel piercing, which can get uncomfortable if it gets squished and rubbed by the waistband of pants. that's when i started to wear low rise - when my navel was healing i had to wear nothing but low rise for weeks. now i love them.
but there are variations on low rise - there's low rise and then there is sub-basement low rise! i mostly stick to the medium low rise, though i do have one pair of corduroys that are REALLY low rise. too low really. they are too big on me right now anyway.
and good point about the warmer weather - it might look skanky when it's healing, so better to get it now so it's healed by the time you want to wear a bathing suit. also, you won't be able to go in the ocean for a certain number of weeks after you get it.
P.S. as for waiting until your stomach is flat to pierce your navel... it will actually heal better if you aren't really skinny. my stomach was pretty flat when i got mine done, and it made it harder to pierce because there wasn't much "slack" to pierce through. it was just pierced through a tight flap of mostly skin with hardly any fat to make a flap, which

Overflowing adipose tissue--that's so funny!
I agree, but on a woman my age it just looks so much more pathetic.

Hey, nothing wrong with maturing frumpily!

Girl, me having a flat stomach for the piercing isn't a problem.
