There was an article in the Washington Post about avid exercisers today.

What's this exhiliration/euphoria you all speak of!!? No fair!! I don't get that feeling. I've had it maybe a couple of times in my life, but always after working out, and it had to be REALLY hard stuff, like running a cross country race. That was in high school.
Interesting that the article mentioned that people who are used to getting that feeling may get depressed when they can't work out. I've been depressed for most of my life (if not all), and exercising is one of the things that brings me up a 'normal' level of happiness. I get seriously irritable and snappish if I can't work out. So I guess I probably do get some exhiliration, I'm just starting a bit more in the hole than most of you, so I don't get as high. ??
if you are prone to being depressed and/or are on
That's very interesting and informative! My serotonin is heavily regulated.
not really! i basically just agreed with your theory about having more of a "hole" to work up out of!
not to mention i'm just guessing! but i'm glad i end up sounding interesting and informative when i'm guessing - i supposed that's what makes me a good lawyer!
I have not been hard core for a while, but I was for at least a year. I worked out 1 1 1/2 hours a day. I have got back into it the past two days. 1/2 hour on the cross trainer and then weights for about 1/2 hour. I LOVE the feeling of NO GUILT after I work out. I also feel so good after I work out. I am so exausted, but it is a good exaustion...

"utkgrad"? You wouldn't be from Knoxville, would you? I lived there for a while, went to UT, and still a big Vols fan.

Well, i'm new enough that the euphoria doesn't set in until *after* i work out! During, things are still new and awkward enough that i can't get into "zen" mode during the workout, and in the midst of a paricular challenge i often say to myself "this is so difficult i'll never do it again!" (tongue-in-cheek, of course...). But the good feeling afterwards keeps me going back, despite my mental banter!
