I typically have a meal replacement bar or low carb bar in my purse or car just in case i get stuck during the day and can't wait to get home to eat. My favorite meal replacement bars are trioplex's chocolate coconut, and smores bars. These taste sooo good but you have to remember they are meal replacements. I've even heated them up in the microwave and they taste almost like a warm coconut cookie or brownie. It's a nice alternative to the real thing. These bars are nice too because they don't break down in the heat like some of the ones with chocolate coating. I am very picky about my taste of chocolate and these two flavors in trioplex are wonderful, but expensive. My favorite low carb bar, is by the low carb series(interactive nutrition)..cookies and cream flavor. No aftertaste, and very yummy. I have yet to find another flavor by this brand that i like so i stick to the cookies and cream. HTH. I haven't tried loads of bars etc..but have asked around the gym and by far these are the two names that repeatidly come up as the best. Suzanne (my favorite brand of protien powder is by whey gourmet..capuccino, and creamy milk chocolate)
I like peppermint stick or s'mores Luna Bars, or peanut butter caramel Balance Bars. I eat them in the late afternoon as my 2nd small lunch/preworkout snack. Or on weekends when we're out running errands and I'm starving.
The Detour bars are great... 170 calories, 2 grams of sugar and 15 grams of protein. Nutritionally, you can't beat that. Zone bars are really good but they have a lot of sugar.
I eat them after I workout and sometimes with a meal. I almost never meal-replace.

Meal replacement as a last resort; usually as a snack.
I vote for Luna and Zone Perfect. And ixnay on the Clif bars.
Either as a snack or meal replacement but, like ramdomthoughts, as
luna is the only common brand i like (my health food store also sells some obscure ones like Bumble Bars)
i eat them as my breakfast or as a snack pre-workout or as a dessert.
I like Balance Bars and Pria (carb control) bars. I like the bars that to me seem to be the most filling for the least amount of calories.
I use them as pre-workout snack. I eat them about 4-5 days out of the week.
Here are my votes...
1st choice: Detour, One Way or Zone Perfect Bars
2nd choice: balance bars, luna bars
