so there's no turning back! I just registered for the RAGBRAI - or the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa! It'll be about 480 miles of bike riding across the state of Iowa - in one week. It's been a long-time dream of mine to do this and this year I've decided to do it! I've started training for it, but I know I'll need to kick-it up a notch in the next month or so. Then I'll be doing my training outdoors - when the weather permits (here in Chicago, Spring is a painfully long season). In the meantime, you will see me in the cycling studio!

that's great!! what a fabulous trip, and it will be such a huge accomplishment (though i know you can do it!)


i wish judie would stop by. she's done a really long bike trip like that through wisconsin (and she lives in the chicago area too) so i know she'd have lots of good advice for you. if she stops by we'll have to remember to tell her about your plans.

Thanks! RAGBRAI is the last week in July, so I have some time to train. I've heard of the race that Judie did/does, that one may be my next challenge (I think it's more hilly, I may be wrong).

I'm also looking into being part of a team for the Danskin Triathalon in July. It's held throughout the country and the one in Chicago is about 1 hr from my house. I have a friend who swims and my sister runs - I'll do the bike, which is about 12 miles. I've never done a triathalon and this could be something I could do (if only I was a runner). It's only a 1/2 mile swim (and they will give you noodle floaties, if you need them), 12 mile bike and 3 mile run. It's all feasible, by themselves, but doing it together - I'm not sure about it. This is something very exciting and it's a few weeks before the RAGBRAI, so it can be part of my training!
