I am "step" stupid

In my efforts to change my workout, I saw there was a step class at my gym last night at 6:30, I normally don't even get out of here until than so I was excited to be able to make it.

I get in the class, and we get going and I could NOT keep up at all. The physical part of it was not the problem, it was the moves, and the pace. I felt so stupid because half the time I was standing there trying to watch everyone and I knew I was doing it all wrong.

I did 45 mins of the class and than when they went into cool down I took off. I had done 10 mins on the bike before hand and all my ab work, so I went out to the elliptical for 20 mins.

I did work up a sweat and such, I am sore today from the lunges, I actually understood that part.

Yikes, I felt like an idiot.

I am going to try a low impact class this weekend perhaps without the step I will understand some of the moves.

I think we have a few different instructors. He is the main instructor for step. I don't want to make a fuss, I think the microphone, and he has a lisp (sp?) I think that complicated things a little as well. I got a little frustrated. I just need to give it another shot, I have nothing to loose.

I am going to try the Salsa class as well as the Hip-hp class. I can't even imagine LOL. I am chubby still and me trying to pull off some hip-hop moves? LOL.

At least it will break up my routine.

We have a bootcamp class too, but I am SO not ready for that.

I have heard a lot of people like spinning, I may try that. Riding the bike is not my strong suit but I may enjoy it.

Hip hop depends soooo much on the instructor, even more than step.

I like the instructor the Salsa class. I will let you know how it goes.

I am excited to try it.

One of the instructors there came up to me a few days ago. She has come up to me twice recently. She asked me the first time how much weight I had lost, she said she had been seeing me in the gym. Than on Monday she came up from behind me and tugged on my hood LOL asked me how I was doing than finally introduced herself. She seems really nice.

So I may give her classes a try since she knows I am newer to the whole class thing. She may be willing to give me some pointers afterwards or beforehand.

I've been there! I've tripped over the step, slipped off the step, you name it (and I occasionally still do it)! But it's a great work-out! Great for your be-hind, legs and when you can manuver the moves, great for the arms . . . and it's a great cardio work-out!

Good luck, be patient, and follow everyone's advice to get yourself familiar with step work-outs!

I walked out of the first step class that I went to a few years back.

The sheet that I have says that it is a basic step class. We have several at my gym, some of the classes involve weights and a bar? I don't know.

I am going to ask someone there. Honestly this instructor is not liked by a lot of people because he is really quick in everything he shows you. Several times in class he said "I am not going to do this for you" "I can remember this why can't you" so we all just kind of looked at each other like well umm you teach it LOL.

Someone said during class he is like that with all of his classes.

I am going to give it another shot as well as Salsa, and Hiphop.

sounds like a not-so-good instructor.

i just wanted to agree with everyone else that step is hard, but it's worth it when you get the hang of it. it took me pretty much 6 months before i could get through a class without majorly getting lost, but now i LOVE it!
