What do you guys think?

I am hurting pretty bad, my hamstrings are killing me, I stood up this morning to get out of bed and actually fell down, my legs were just not ready to move.

Last night was my one night I take off the gym, should I take another day off? Or should I go and try and do something?

Before Christmas I would take Thursday & Friday off, than I started going Friday's to try and combat my Thursday night cheat night. I was doing well before I added that day back in.

I am just not sure about going tonight because of how bad I hurt.

Well if you fell because your legs are that weak you may have hurt something. I have always heard the best thing when you are sore from a workout is to workout the next day. The best thing to do when you are sore from an injury is to rest. If you are feeling better towards the end of the day, I would try just a short walk 25 minutes on treadmill, that way your muscles are loosening up.

Are you drinking lots of water? Don't forget that the chemical stuff that causes muscle pain (the name is escaping me, but Jen or Jean will know) builds up and cannot be flushed out without proper hydration. Drink more water.

Sitting around/laying around will not help this. While REST should be on your agenda today, it should include some sort of activity that will get those muscles moving and warmed up. A brisk walk, NOT RUN, NOT SPEED WALKING. A bike ride, LOW SPEED, LOW RESISTANCE. A short time on the epi at low speed and low resistance. Anything that is going to use those muscles without stressing them will help.

And, a final warning from someone who knows... be careful just how far you push the limits of your body. While I have been known to be pretty hardcore about lifing and working out I learned that there is a line that when crossed leads to injury, pain and frustration rather than results. I suspect you may be toeing that line and not realize it. I have permanent damage to my IT band due to pushing too hard, training too often and not listening to my body (or doctor). Don't make the same mistake I have. My 12 week recovery has turned into 12 months of struggle to get back on track and a net gain of nearly 40 pounds.

I drink about 240 oz of water a day. I will keep that up and maybe increase a little.

I am going to go tonight and do the bike, and just take it easy, it will be some activity and it may help me feel a little better. The more I walk the better I feel. So I should do something.

I need to be more careful. I am so anxious to try new things and to see what my body is capable of and I think that could be damaging. I jsut need to ease into things.

Thanks for the great advice.

I'm wondering if your legs are really exhausted from doing the step class? Step newbies will feel it in their calves the next day, and a lot of instructors will do just a little calf stretch because most people in the class are used to it. I agree with what everyone else has said, a little low impact cardio to loosen up your muscles, then stretch.

And a hot bath maybe!

i agree with kiervin, listen to your body. but a gentle walk or gentle bike ride might help loosen your muscles and make you feel better. i like the idea of a gentle workout with an extra long stretching session afterward.

You drink 240 ounces of water a day????

If I did the math correctly that is 14 - 16.9 ounce bottles of Poland Springs a day. I drink about 6 of those a day about 100 ounces a day, is that too much?

Being a runner I have heard of so many runners who die from drinking too much water, is that bad for you?

The official name for this condition is hyponatremia
Enough, but not too much. The fluid requirement for the majority of endurance athletes, under most conditions, is about 8 to 16 ounces per hour and that is for endurance athletes.

I do, I love water, I didn't know I could drink too much.

I out of a 1.5L bottle wich has 6 servings at 8oz a piece, so each bottle is 48oz. I fill it up at least 6 or 7 times a day. Is this bad?

If you feel fine on it, then it's probably okay.
