One change a day...

Ok, Jen and Jean and a few of the oldtimers who sometimes visit probably remember me and the on-going struggle with weight. Fat baby, fat toddler, fat kid, fat teen, fat lady...

I lost and was doing well and was on track in life. Family deaths and the depression that ensued, an injury, a job I hate (did I mention I got a promotion yesterday?), and so much chaos I make an international airport look like a zen garden means that I've gained again.

So, I'm all for admitting my mistakes and faults and learning from them. I've handled this wrong. Negative feelings = negative action.

Here is the challenge, yes I'm enlisting your help I cannot do it alone. I'm co-dependent too, how's that for messed up? I swear before the board gods and all present to make one positive change a day.

Today is day one, my positive change will be to NOT EAT ANY OF THE CANDY LAYING AROUND THE OFFICE. My strategy for achieving this is to take something else I love to eat instead--the new little mandarin orange single packs from dole:)

Anyone else?

good for you! it's good to hear that you are taking to heart the wise advice that you would give others if they were in your place right now - like not beating yourself up about getting off track, and taking it one day at a time.

you are one of the strongest, most dedicated people i know. i have no doubt that you can get on track if you only give yourself the caring and attention you always give to other people.

Good idea--one step at a time.

You are most certainly not alone and I think you know that. Bad eating habits are something I fight all the time.

I would probably change your "one change a day" to one change a week... It's less overwhelming I think and also allows you to make things a habit before moving onto something else.

My "thing" that I'm working on is to obssess less about my appearance and stop criticizing so much. I can easily get bogged down in negativity and I continually try to no let that happen.

Good for you kiervin! I hope this works for you, and I think it would be awesome if we did it as a board. Oh, and my kids and I love those manderine oranges.

I've started my positive change for the day, too. I have excepted this baby, and I am going to ENJOY with all of my heart and soul this pregnancy and being a mother of 3 very young children. This is going to be my chance to do things I didn't do the last couple of times...like the belly pictures and being the happy pregnant lady. I made myself except this statement this morning, and I did some goal setting. I am very excited about my new life change now :)

Cool--and a year from now, you'll wonder, what would I have ever done w/out this baby in my life. That's how I felt after I had my daughter but wasn't that thrilled about the whole pregnancy thing (even though it was planned!).

Great post.

For me, I am going to start making smaller goals for myself. Stop saying the last 35#s of this. I need to do it in 5# markers. I want to get into the 170's even it is is 179.9 LOL. So that is my next goal!

There are a few new things I would like.

I have an ipod, and I listen to my music on it quite often but I am thinking I would like to dl a few new books to it. So when I hit 179, I am going to dl a few romance novels.

For my birthday I got a docking station for it, and it has speakers so I can listen to it without the earphones. I am thinking of lighting some candles and just relaxing and listening to a book :)

That is a great point about resisting temptation.

We don't really buy junk at home. I however work in an office where most people have at least one candy dish and are constantly bringing in doughnuts or cookies or some other treat. My immediate co-workers--5 in my division, with one exception, have all adopted the no junk attitude. There is a community pretzel stick container, but we put it across the room on the junkers desk so we have to walk to get them and only take a few when we do. (I ticked off on a post-it each one I ate, curiosity and all, and found that I had 15, at 2 calories each for the whole day) Others in the building are constantly offering food, treats and dropping off "care packages" on our desks. I'm guilty of grabbing two or three hershey kisses when I go make my tea after lunch. On really bad days I'll do it a couple of times in the day. That adds up! My goal set yesterday was to get through day one without any. I know that complete denial is a recipe for failure but that goal for the long term becomes only having it when I have planned or made a conscious decision to have one or two, not a routine, every day snack like it had turned into.

So, I'm proud to say I resisted all offers of candy. Even the sugar free peanut butter cups that one of the diabetics offered (I really like them better than the regular and he knows that).
