does anyone have any idea where i could find a course for certification to teach group fitness? i attend college in the middle of nowhere--there isn't even a gym here other than the university gym...

Welcome to Gym Rats! The certification generally only takes a day or a half day, depending on the organization.

hi and welcome to gym rats! ditto what jean said. unfortunately, it sounds like a lot of people have to travel to take the certification test, but maybe you can combine it with a trip somewhere you want to go. we on this board are getting together at the DC aerobic conference (DCAC) in July - you can get certified by AFAA at that event. so maybe think of coming to join us! it's really fun, basically 3 days of master classes by some of the best instructors in the world. there are also lectures and stuff too, but the master classes are really the best part!

let us know what you decide to do. we have people here who are ACE certified and AFAA certified, and some other certifications as well, so i'm sure we'll have some advice for you. (if you want it!)

I'm definitely interested! I'm a little weary of the programs that are home study/internet only, thats why I DEFINITELY want advice! :)

yeah, i think you are right to be wary of the internet only programs. here in the US, i think the best programs for people without a background in exercise physiology are ACE and AFAA. they both require home study and then a one day or half day exam in person. plus, you'll need to get CPR certified. those might be your best bet.
