Hi i recently joined a gym (three weeks now) . I really do enjoy going and im trying to get a real nice body. I was wondering do any of you have children. The reason im asking is that one of my main goals is to show of a six pack of abs. Am i being unrealistic. Does the baby belly ever really go away?
And how many days a week should i be working my abs and for how long to get the results that i want?
Thanx

Hi!
hi and welcome to gym rats. everything jean said was great - a couple of additional comments:
1. even though working your abs won't give you a six pack, there are a lot of other good reasons to work your abs - good posture (will make you look thinner and prevent injury), functional strength for lifting babies and groceries, etc., prevent back injury, etc. etc. so definitely don't forget about working abs - try to do it two or three times a week at least.
2. most people don't do ab exercises correctly. it's very important to learn to do them correctly to get the benefits you want and to prevent injury. probably the easiest way to learn correct ab form is to take a pilates class - either in person, or rent a pilates video. the quality of pilates instructors varies, but most should at least give you correct form for the "bicycle" (i think its called the criss cross in pilates) and other basic abs exercises.
by the way, to answer your question, there are many women here with children - for instance, undone, jean, kiervin, millcreek, grace - but six packs are very scarce among gym rats, whether they've had children or not. just keep in mind it's not a realistically acheivable goal for most people. you can certainly trim down and get some definition to your abs, but in all likelihood neither you nor i nor any of us are going to have a six pack.
but don't let that stop you, there are many other good reasons to work out and eat right! good luck with the baby belly!
