The BMI is your body mass index.

When choosing a PT ask to see proof of certification, how much experience they have, if they have an area of focus (ie. - body builders; older adults; rehab; general lifestyle overhaul; etc.) and for references.

One other thing in regards to picking a PT... certifications and experience are absolutely important but you also need to find someone you feel comfortable with as well. Trainers become like counselors in a way and if your trainer is going to help you reach your goals, you need to feel comfortable enough to open up about your feelings, frustrations, hopes, etc. A large part of my job is being a cheerleader for my clients and in order for me to do that, they have to allow themselves to be at least a little vulnerable with me. If you start using a trainer, see if they will do a free session with you so you can get a feel for their style and personality. If not, try to buy just one session or a couple in the event it's not a good fit, you can try someone else.

I never really thought of that. I will have to see whom they have available. I know they are quite expensive at my gym, I am going to look into it and see if its doable.

Since all my clients are either participants in my classes or the result of word of mouth, I don't do anything promotional, this one didn't even occur to me, but is VERY important. This is where references come in handy. And talk to people around the gym. Watch some of the trainers when they're around. And although purchasing a single session is often more costly then a pkg. deal it's worth it to see if you & the PT are on the same wavelength.
