Coincidentally i witnessed my first mosh pit just last Saturday. At a Dresden Dolls concert. We were standing on stairs and could see the moshing and it was quite amusing at first.... Then it got so bad that the singer had to tell the audience to "when you see that somebody's down, help them back up, that's what they're there for".
that's what i'm saying, back in the old days the audience would have known that. they would know to pick people up when they fell, and how to form a perimeter around the pit to keep everyone in safely, and how to pass someone along while crowd surfing. i think they all had it burned into them by the bands - i remember going to see Fugazi and other dc hardcore bands and they'd stop playing in the middle of a song and wait until people behaved better if the crowd was not being polite in the pit or crowding each other too much. i think i remember one Jawbox concert where they stopped playing at least 3 times in one song.
i hate to say it, but these kids today, most of them, they are all about the fashion. or maybe it's a punk vs. hardcore thing. DC hardcore has always been very associated with straight edge and social consciousness and personal responsibility and not as much about how you look, though there is a definite "hardcore" look. but Strike Anywhere is actually a really socially conscious band, all their lyrics are very politically and socially conscious. so i hope that means their fans "get it" and aren't just all about pink mohawks and studded belts.
1) jumped in a mosh pit? >>>> hmmm....approx. 18 years
2) were in the vacinity of a most pit? >>>> approx. 10-11 years
3) went sledding? >>>> Don't even remember - how sad is that
4) did a cartwheel? >>>>> easy - never (I can't even do a 'tripod' how could I possibly do a cartwheel. I have tried on occasion & failed painfully & miserably.)
5) let a guy you didn't know buy you a drink? >>> Let's see... when did I meet DH? Almost 15 years ago.
