If you do a quick guess of calories in food, do you usually underestimate, overestimate or are you pretty much right on?

i don't really do it. i don't think i'm good at it.

when i calorie count, i weigh the food and use nutritional guides to figure it out (like fitday). or, of course, read the label if it's a packaged food.

I use fitday.com to track my calories. Now I do it probably about once a week, because I seem to eat just about the same things all week. I think it is pretty accurate, but I bet I underestimate what I eat by about 100-200 calories a day.

Like if I have a spoonful of peanut butter before I am running out of the house to the gym, I bet I have more than 2 tablespoons that I think I have.

I am so used to looking at fat and carbs, that I never check the calories. I'm on the Zone Diet and that is about a 1200 calories/day diet. Since I've been on this diet, when I buy things I mainly look at the carbs and protein. I just figure if I'm keeping up with the diet, I know how many calories I'm eating each day.

I calorie-counted when I was dieting last year (10 pounds of weight that I gained probably from Easter candy). I'm pretty good at identifying the calories in stuff, but when we go out to eat, especially at restaurants that are not chains (I'll go to the company websites to get calorie counts of stuff), I'm sure I'm way off.

yes, i agree it's really hard when you go out to eat. i remember seeing an article somewhere recently about the way they cook at restaurants. even things that seem healthy are coated in butter and other extra fats. that's why it tastes so good!

Since I've counted and measured for so long, I'm pretty good at telling what's in food. When I comes to calculating how much I've eaten, I have a bit of calorie denial. *grin* A large piece of chocolate cake? Oh... about 200 calories.... Hee-hee. :)

That all depends on what you mean by "large"!
