i never heard that - though i've heard that caffeine and artificial sweeteners are supposed to irritate your bladder and make you pee more often but i don't know whether or how that's related to retaining water.
i always thought the best thing to do to not retain water is cut back on salt.
According to Jonny, diet soda (I call it pop) can stall weight loss, possibly due to the citric acid they contain. Diet soda (pop) may also trigger insulin production b/c of the articfial sweetners.
