Are we ever satisfied?

Jean's question of the week prompted me to think of this... Do you all think we'll ever be satisfied with our levels of fitness? Or, are we all Type A gymrats who need to have ever-changing goals? (I'm not saying this is a bad thing... just pondering the personality types of gymrats.)

Yeah, I'm stronger in the upper body now, too, so I wonder if I could be better.

I am motivated in large part by vanity too. That's where my real drive comes from. And the rest is just gravy - once you start feeling fit and healthy from your quest to look better, you kind of get hooked on feeling that way, and want to be more and more fit.

Yeah, I had that problem a couple of times too- being short, I mean- when I was climbing indoors with Wes! I had to do all sorts of finagling and almost jumping to reach them. There was one or maybe two that I absolutely could not reach so I had to come down :(

I took a women's climbing clinic a couple of years ago. The teacher would tell me to jump for it. Yeah, I fell every time.

I think being satisfied w/ one's level of fitness and body is a separate thing from the issue of changing goals. I am satisfied w/ my level fitness and my body and have been for some time. I don't mean this in the sense of vanity, I'm not supermodel or fitness model material by a long stretch, but I am comfortable w/ my body and level of health and fitness. HOWEVER, humans by nature are imperfect and so we must always strive to better ourselves. We haven't evolved mentally, emotionally or physically to accept and remain in stasis. So my goals change, adapting to my life at any given time, because I enjoy learning and experiencing new things and testing the limits of what my mind and body are capable of. I would be dissatisfied if I ever lost this desire.

That's a very good point. I am satisfied with where I am right now but that doesn't mean I don't want to get better.
