Hi. I hope you can help me - I'm feeling really discouraged. I asked this question on another board but nobody responded. I've been lurking around here lately and you guys seem to really know a lot about exercise so maybe someone can help me.
I started dieting (SBD) the first of the year as well as doing thirty minutes a day on the treadmill. The dieting sort of fell by the wayside (I still try to eat healthy - I just stopped restricting myself to only low carb). Initially I lost about 11 pounds (of course I gained back about 4 after I began adding grains back into my diet). I decided to step up my exercise though instead of getting back on the "dieting roller coaster" and by increasing my treadmill time to 30 minutes in the AM and 30 minutes in the PM - everyday - I lost those four pounds and slowly lost another two. I finally felt like I had some control and life was good.LOL Now, since the cardio was working out so well for me I decided that I would add some strength training - I'm very serious about getting in shape (I'm 47 and I figure I'm not getting any younger) so I signed up with a private trainer at the gym and I had my first session 2 days ago. I had a great workout with her but of course the next morning I was pretty sore. I still did the treadmill as well as some stretches to make my muscles feel better (and they do) and today -2 days after the session- I feel great. The scale says I have gained three pounds since Wednesday though!! I know muscle weighs more than fat but there is no way that I could have increased any muscles after only one session. I was wondering if perhaps sore muscles retain water and this could be the reason for my sudden weight increase? I have about twenty more pounds to lose and I thought I finally had a handle on it and I certainly don't want to throw in the towel!!

Thanks for your help. I will keep doing what I'm doing because if nothing else, it makes me feel great. I have also started taking a Yoga class (speaking of things that make you feel great) and I love it.
