I think Nadia is striking--she didn't get kicked off, but was in the bottom.

this is the perfect weather to jog outside! well, if you can get some time when it isn't raining. wear a light wicking long sleeve shirt and it's perfect.

you should take advantage of this - soon it'll be too hot to run outside.

I do like trail running but it's definitely harder. We ran a little bit on asphalt today and I could tell my pace picked up immediately on the asphalt. On the trails, I feel my feet sink in a bit and you've got to push that much harder to keep going. I guess that would explain the extra calories my HRM monitor claims I'm burning.

I was wearing trail runners before so I guess now they're actually sport specific. :) If I lived in a real cold-weather state, I don't think you'd see me plugging away outside in the winter. DH and I went running several weeks bad when it was pretty chilly in the morning (probably low 50's which is COLD in AZ) and my eyes were tearing up so much I could hardly see. Yes, we do have beautiful weather right now even if we are getting more rain.

I've decided that I don't like running much on treadmills.

I'm looking for excuses. I feel so at home at the gym!

I hear ya, Jean. I used to think that if I didn't have access to gym, everything would fall apart. When I decided to cut back my days at work after the move, I realized pretty quickly that I would need to start thinking outside the gym if I wanted to keep up with my workouts. I bought a medicine ball and some Spri stuff this week and you know what? It's been rather liberating to be working out at home. I think it was good for me to get out of that must-work-out-at-the-gym mentality. I've been going out to run or walk and then I come home and do strength training for two muscle groups.

I got this great book for Christmas on functional movement and training (which I'm very interested in) and I started reading it yesterday. The book is very anti-machine because of the fact that machines effectively isolate and muscle isolation doesn't have much real world application. The author talks a lot about how bodybuilding/powerlifting is effective in building strong and cosmetically pleasing muscles but does very little for every day functionality. He's a big proponent of using limited stabilization tools (like BOSU's, physio balls) and with me working out at home so much, I'm going to be forced to incorporate a lot of that into my workouts because I don't have that much equipment.

Jean, step away from the gym. :)

jean - sometimes trail running websites will give mileage on trails, or sometimes you can figure it out by driving along the trail. road distances, you can drive along to get mileage.

i agree with kel's suggestion to workout at home if you don't want to go to the gym just to lift or whatever if you run outside. you can easily do push ups, pull ups, and tricep dips
