Update on my Grocery Delivery

I replied to an e-mail that the grocery company sent me saying that my complaint had been received and someone would be contacting me. Well, after I didn't hear anything for 2 days, I replied to that message saying: "No, I haven't been contacted. No, I STILL don't have my groceries. No, I'm not a satisfied customer. And Yes, I expect to be compensated for my inconvience." I threw in the part about being a new mother and having out of town guests who had to go shopping for me, etc. Well, the next thing I know, the delivery guy shows up at my door with my groceries. Before I could give him a piece of my mind, he apologizes profusely, tells me that he's been out with the flu, and knocked $15 off my order. So, now *I'm* the bad guy. He looked so pitiful; you could tell he wasn't feeling well. Why didn't the grocery company tell me that my driver was out sick? Now I feel horrible. Next time, I'll just choose the option to have my order shipped UPS rather than have them delivered. What a pain!

That was nice of him to knock off the price but why didn't they call first and why do they only have one delivery guy?

It's a national delivery service but the delivery guys are assigned territories and they earn commission. They don't deliver in each other's areas. If I ordered through UPS everything would arrive packed in ice. The produce is already frozen, which is why I don't get much produce from them. I prefer to get that fresh from the grocer down the street. I'm going to try UPS next time to see if my service is better.

What I would like to know is why doesn't the company have a back up delivery guy for when this guy is sick?
