Hi Ladies,

I've been less of a gym rat lately (hence the subject title) and also really busy at work and with planning a wedding so I have mostly just been lurking here now and then.

Just wanted to delurk to say hi --- I am slowly but surely getting back into my normal levels of activity after my surgery (cosmetic). I can still run pretty well (I did 3.5 miles on Monday fairly easily, but I'm not used to the bouncing chest), but weight lifting and conditioning is slower going. I started Body Pump yesterday and was humiliated to be lifting only about 5 lbs. on the chest/biceps/triceps track. I can't do a pushup to save my life because it stretches too much in the wrong places right now-- and to boot, I almost fainted. Not kidding. I actually had to sit with my head between my legs. It sure doesn't take long for the muscles to atrophy! I can barely walk today, even with lifting those miniscule amounts.

The wedding planning is going well! My dress fits almost too perfectly so I might have it let out a little in the waist just so I don't obsess for the next few months about not gaining any weight. I will drive myself nuts worrying otherwise - and I want to be able to enjoy myself on vacation the few days before the wedding. Anyone else like that, or am I just nuts? I hate the feeling of tight, formal clothes on my skin.

How's everyone around here? What's new?

~Tara

Take it easy. I know what you mean about the sudden and drastic changes you can have in your strength training. I had to stop benching while I was pregnant and now I'm afraid to even attempt to bench. I obsess about having to wear a certain outfit on a certain day. What if I can't fit it? Usually, all of the worrying causes me to gain weight and the dress ends up being a bit snug. But no one can tell except me. I'd much rather have to grab a dress without notice and pull a look together.

15 lbs!!! Wow, that's a lot!

I would be down to my 12 year-old pre-puberty weight if I lost 15 lbs. - my weight goes up and down give or take about 4 lbs. but I don't think I'll be losing any weight before the wedding - probably gaining a couple if anything, which is why I am worried that the dress fits so well. I remember my last wedding dress felt really tight to me too because I'm not used to clothes fitting so perfectly. So we'll see what the seamstress says, and good idea about the option of waiting until the last minute in case the weight gain doesn't happen and I can wear the dress as is.

I love the way my body looks now. Even my mom, who is very anti-cosmetic surgery herself, told me that I look great. Twice! I was so surprised. She never says stuff like that to me. It's so fun to fill out shirts that were huge on me before, and to be able to look good in a tank top. The surgeon did a great job - if I didn't still have scars, you'd never know that I wasn't 100% natural. I feel sexy! I love it! Thanks for asking.

i don't think you should let out your dress. chances are you won't gain weight, and if you do, you can always have it altered later. you aren't going to gain enough weight to make your dress too tight in the few days you are on vacation. if it's loose it won't look good.

wedding dresses are different than regular clothes anyway. they are supposed to be tighter. when i got married, i had them make the dress as tight as possible, because that's how it looked the best - it pulled everything in. and it was very tight and it looked great. it wouldn't have been comfortable to wear at any other event, but believe me at your own wedding you are not going to notice discomfort because of your dress being tight. there is too much going on. you are lucky if you even remember the wedding, let alone have enough presence of mind to be bothered by a tight dress. i have NEVER EVER heard a woman say - "my wedding dress looked great, but i regret wearing it because it was uncomfortable."

and if sounds superficial to be more concerned with how it looks than with comfort, consider how much you are spending on photos, and ask yourself this is something worth being

Good point about the dress, Jen. I don't know why I am so paranoid. I don't have any pictures yet - most of this recovery time I've been wearing the bulkiest clothes possible to cover up the surgical bra I had to wear. Not cute! I will post as soon as I have one.
