Impact from Running

I think I have been underestimating the impact of running on my body... I did a 30 minute run yesterday and am pretty sore from yesterday (although, in all fairness, I did lift legs on Monday). My current schedule has been six days of lifting, 3 days of running, 2 days of some other type of cardio at the gym (usually the bike or elliptical) and we try to squeeze in a relatively low impact but lengthy walk. I think it's too much. On paper it sounded okay, but every day I seem to feel stiff and sore and my motication to do any sort of strength training is slipping away (I think I'm just focused on running right now).

So, my plan is this... I'm at the gym two days a week for clients so on those days, I think I'm going to do a total body circuit (mixing in the cardio in between sets to keep the heart rate up). That will take my lifting days down from 6 to 2. I'll keep my 3 days of running and still try to get in a walk.

What do you all think?

Well you know I'm all for cutting down days of lifting!

Well, oddly enough, cutting down on workout time isn't even why I decided to try it. I was chatting with a trainer friend on Monday and she mentioned she had done a circuit and I immediately wrinkled my nose and said I hated training that way.

When I say hate I doing something, it takes me about 24 hours to realize that that's what I should be doing. I generally grow from tackling things I don't like and that's why I do it.

I agree. Running is awfully hard on your body, especially your joints. Cutting back on some of the high impact workouts sounds right to me.

try it and see how you like it. definitely listen to your body if you think you are doing too much.
