Getting lean?

Hi,
I haven't written in a while...I guess, I'm still rather new to this board. Just wanted to get some suggestions on what is the best way to get lean? I'm thin, but, I'm not lean...or not as lean as I could be. I notice that some of the women in my gym that are lean and in shape, only go in for about an hour. mostly do weight training and maybe 20 or 30mins of aerobics 3 times a week. Should I be eating more protein?
Hope to hear from you!!!!

It commented about thin women who only spend 30 minutes in the gym and barely working up a sweat. The commentator said they didn't do that with diet and exercise. No-one's body is perfect but it can be with a visit to the cosmetic surgeon.
:::shaking head:::
Now granted we all don't see our selves as perfect but darn it! Most women don't go under the knife to get that body. A lot of hard work is involved.
I say work hard and you will acheive your goal Lisa!! Keep up the good work.
what a stupid commercial.
Although I am not as lean as I would like, I do find that when I eat more protein and watch the carbs I am leaner or at least feel leaner. Also, I do think that 20-30 mins of cardio a week helps. I am also a big proponent of yoga for getting lean. Even just doing ashtanga yoga once a week makes a big difference for me.
Everyone has different body types though and I agree there is only so much you can do with your genetics. Good luck!

Thank you for your vote of confidence. I know that alot of it is genetics but, I truly think I can do better if I ate better. I had some problems to deal with the last week or so, and I didn't have time to go to they gym and of course, I went off target with my diet, anyway, I started the gym today. I'm eating alittle more protein than usual. I think that will help. And, I'm eating healthier all together.
I think that commercial was too funny. Let me tell you, I just found out about an ex-coworker that had a tummy tuck and right now as we speak in a hospital on the verge of death. Apparently, her body formed blood clots and she's got them every where even her lung. They don't know if she's going to make. I think I'll stick to eating healthier and exercise.
I'll let you know my progess.......
As everyone mentioned genetics are a big factor - we weren't all meant to be lean.
I used to tell people that when it came to the factors under their control, diet & activity, it was a 50/50 split but I've changed my mind. Exercise & regular activity are vital, BUT diet seems to have even more influence. Primarily it comes down to 'calories in < calories out' but I discovered that what you eat is even more important. Eating cleaner, more wholesome foods allows the body to get quality fuel & puts less stress on the digestive system resulting in a more efficiently functioning body - in every way. This tends to result in a more efficient metabolism as well. However, the right ratio of macronutrients varies from individual. North Americans as a rule eat more than sufficient amounts of protein, but too much sugar, starch & saturated/trans fats and not enough fibre/roughage. I can offer more detail at another time (I'm swamped today) so if you have any specific questions that I, or any one else, can answer just ask.
