Talked to a Neurologist Friend

I sent him an e-mail last week when I had bad headaches for a referral in my area. I always feel bad asking friends for advice if it's their profession so I just asked if he knew anyone in NoVa.

Ah, you are making me so nervous! Please be careful!!!!!!
I guess after being around gymnasts and divers for so long, I get nervous about head/neck injuries. I have seen things develop several weeks after the kids started to feel better. Just take it easy. I think cardio is fine, but maybe you should take it easy on anything straining, like your doc friend suggested.
OMG, I am so nervous for you.
Paula
Oh, I don't mean to diagnos you or anything because I didn't see your accident. I just get nervous around head/neck injuries because I have seen (several times) kids fall off things or fall while tumbling, land on their heads or necks, get up like nothing happen, and a week later in the hospital with some serious injury. Most of the time the doctors said that if the kids had just taken it easy after the fall nothing would have come of it, but because they kept doing gymnastics they aggrevated the injury.
I'm sure you are fine, I'm just really freaked out by those types of things. Sorry if I sounded like I was all knowing, I just wanted you to know that I am worried about you.
Paula
i'm not a doctor, but i play one anyway, and i'm a hypochondriac, and i'm not too worried about jean in terms of serious injury (though i'm sorry she's in discomfort). in all my years of growing up around doctors, i've never heard of an adult who had an injury like this where she seemed fine and then it turned out to later be something serious, in terms of life threatening injuries. i'm not saying it can't happen but it's certainly not common.
i have heard of various sports injuries seeming to be fine but if you don't rest them then they come back as chronic injuries. if you did injure your spine or muscles at all jean, i would be somewhat worried about developing a chronic injury there that is susceptible to reinjury or causes chronic pain. in terms of your brain or whatever, i don't think there is much of a chance that you will seem fine for, what? over a week now and then end up with brain swelling or some neurological problem. i think your neurologist friend gave you good advice and if he wasn't worried about neurological damage then you shouldn't be worried either.
