How about we use this thread with where we want to go, then each week we can post what we're going to do that week to help get there?

yeah, that's what i'm talking about, running and then sliding forward on your knees. i actually did it a few times as part of my theatrical interpretation of Madonna's "Like a Prayer" - gave myself a floor burn on my foot (i was barefoot). we had a great time! just a bunch of

that's why you stop or rest at the point that you are losing form. it's not like crossing the English channel!! you aren't going to be pushing yourself to the point where you are just barely not drowning! the last 10 yards of that half lap (you don't need to turn around and finish up the lap, you can hold on to the wall in the deep end to rest or get out of the water there) might not not look so pretty, but you aren't going to be in danger of drowning. if you are really THAT exhausted, you can do the back stroke or another easier stroke until you get to the side of the pool. i wouldn't worry about it. like i said, swim until you lose form, rest, swim some more until you lose form, rest, when you can only get halfway across the pool without losing form, quit for the day.

I was just kidding about the drowning--I'm sure I'd get to the edge by breaststroke or something.

Let us know how it goes when you all finally break out in a routine!

Here is what I do:

Since my legs are so much stronger than my arms, I swim until exhaustion, grab a kickboard and do a couple laps. That way I keep moving, but I also rest by arms. Then I'll do just pulls with a bouye (sp) to get that burnout in my upperbody. Then I rest. Next I swim a different stroke doing the same thing.

Also, you can do a google search for Master's swimming, and they have workouts on the website.

That's a good idea with the kickboard.

You guys sound like you're gearing up for a virtual triatholon!

Pulls are the opposite of kicking, you just do the arms stroke and breathing by putting the bouye (wish I could spell that) between your legs. Most pools keep the bouyes with the kickboards.

Good idea! Wish I could run, though.

I'd love to train for one.
