Sunless Tanning?

Hi everyone,

I know this is not a gym rat topic, but, I was wondering if any of you have tried the sunless tanning lotions on the market? I just bought one from L'Oreal, tried it last night, I'm afraid that it will stain my clothes if I sweat. I live in South Florida, and it gets very hot here. I chose the lotions versus tanning beds because I was told that the sunning beds are just as bad as going out in the sun. I could certainly go to the beach and tan but, I don't want alot of damage done to my skin.

Help.

it is true that tanning beds are just as bad as lying in the sun. i haven't used the lotions in a long time, but if you follow the directions it won't stain your clothes. you are supposed to apply it, leave it on for a certain time, and then wash it off. once you wash it off, it won't stain your clothes, because it's actually changed the color of your skin, it's not a dye that is sitting on your skin. the lotion itself might stain your clothes though.

wow! I didn't really think the tanning beds were just as bed as lying in the sun. glad, I listened. I rather go to the beach.;-) Anyway, I also didn't know you were supposed to wash off the lotion. this one from l'oreal doesn't say to wash it off. It just says to apply it, let it dry and then you can get dressed. I'm going to try it the way you explained it. I tried one years ago but, for the life of me, I can't remember if I washed it off or not.
thanks

I have never used any but I hear the lotion by Neutrogena is pretty good. Have you seen the infomercial for the spray-on tanning solution like the stars use? That sounds like an accident waiting to happen!

yes, i heard that Neutrogena is good too. I bought the L'oreal one because it had the darkest tan. Neutrogena only had light to medium, atleast at this store anyway. they had alittle spray gun at the store and they also had the spray tans. i think, i'd be alittle scared of those.

I have to give props to the spray salons (Mystic Tan, Magic Tan, etc.). I used to have a hard time self-applying the sunless tanners evenly and always ended up with weird streaks or patches. I started going to a Magic Tan salon last summer and the results were awesome. The downside is that you have to go in every week to keep up the tan, and it's somewhat pricy. I bought a package deal which lasted me pretty much through the summer. I have used Clarins sunless tanning gel with pretty good results; Neutrogena was okay for me. Some tips for successful sunless tanning: exfoliate everywhere before you apply, put some lotion on rough areas like knees or elbows before you apply so that you don't get darker patches there, try to get someone else to do your back or other hard-to-reach places.

hmmm, if it doesn't say to wash it off, i wouldn't wash it off. maybe the first time you get dressed to go out after smearing it on, just wear something you don't mind getting a bit icky, just in case, and then after that first experiment you'll know whether it stains clothes. i doubt it will though.
