Average PT salary?

I got a call back from the PT studio, they want to interview me! But she also wants to know my salary expectations. A quick Google search didn't come up with any avaerage salaries for PT's...so for you PT's out there...what do you make an hour? How much do your clients pay? What percentage of what the gym charges is take home?

If you don't want to answer on the board, please email me zorbs@leafqueen.net

Thanks!

When I train clients independant from what the gym assigns me (which pays a mere pittance)I charge a variety of fees depending on what they want. These are Cdn. dollars - $60 for a consultation/program design that they can take & do on their own; $45 for individually purchased sessions, then lesser amounts for specific pkgs. I'm considered very reasonable, I'm more interested in helping folks than making money & feel guilty even asking for this much, but most trainers around here, from what I gather, charge $60-75/session on average, sometimes more.

I think at our gym..canadian dollars it is something like 45-49 can dollars a session. If you buy more than lets say ten sessions you get a slightly lesser fee. HTH suzanne

Just a note for SRT here, in case she doesn't know, when you are an employee of a business you don't get the full price of a session. I don't know what the average percentage is when you work for a personal training business, but gyms pay staff trainers a small fraction of what the member is charged. I make slightly less than 50% of the fee on the pkg. deal. Unfortunately, although I get the whole fee w/ independant clients I have to work a lot harder to get and keep them - then there's taxes and overhead.

Thanks, soleil, I am aware of that. It's just like with my piano teaching - private students I charge $35/h and take all of that home, whereas at the music school, they charge about the same but I only take home $16/h.
