Yup- I have a fabulous a$$ due to many years of dancing- ballet, tap, jazz, etc that is! Dancing in heels is part of it, but also, in general, a lot of stuff in dance works the glutes and the hamstrings- that whole general area is usually pulled in and engaged.
My mom and my sister are both pretty butt-less, so I can only guess that it's from that. Plus, my butt is not all that jiggly and if I flex, I get the little dents on the side. Guys always seem to like it :)
Hell yeah, dancing is an excellent workout, if you follow the instructions, esp. in regard to technique. I was in amazing shape in college, and still ate like a guy on the weekends. I miss it a lot...
Yeah, my abs were GREAT! Unfortunately, I don't really have the money to pay for as many dance classes as I used to take. Esp. good quality instruction.
I did tap, ballet and jazz. Did modern for a little bit too. Started dancing when I was 4. I was a Musical Theatre major in college- I went to a prestigious performing arts conservatory. Dancing was part of our schedule- 5 classes a week for an hour and a half each.
Well, there certainly aren't any good dance studios in Arlington! I'm sure I could get good instruction somewhere in the city- but again, dance classes are really expensive. Sigh...stupid grad school poor-ness :(
That's actually why I'd started doing taekwondo last year- it was cheaper than dance classes. Now I can't afford either!
Not really a shame for me. When I was a dancer we had a career 'best before' of approx. age 35 (Aah...if we knew then what we do now), so I figured I'd have to find something else eventually anyway. DH & I planned our son w/ the intention of me going to university when the child started going to school full time. I gave up dance to have #1 Son, something I never regret for a moment. I even performed until midway thru my 5th month - until I 'popped' (y'all that been there should know what I mean).

Well now I"m pretty annoyed at my parents for not letting me take dancing lessons like I had wanted and making me take violin lessons instead.....
Well...I have good fingers....;)
I think if you really focus on dance technique during Jazzercise you can get a good workout.
