Work out or get some sleep?

Hi all,

I have a question for you guys...
So the absolute only time I have to work out is in the early morning; I try to wake up by 5:00 AM so that I'm not rushed at the gym. The problem is, I have final papers due in the next 2 weeks, and I have to study for the LSAT's that I'll be taking in June, which equals very little sleeping time, especially if I need to wake up by 5. We're talking about 3-4 hours if I wake up at 5; if I sleep in and wake up at 7, I get 5-6 hours of sleep. So what do you think? Should I just bite the bullet, continue my workouts on miniscule amounts of sleep, and hope that the exercise gives me enough energy for my day? Or should I stop the workouts, get more sleep, and start up the workouts once everything is over in June? FYI, I'm the kind of person who doesn't need and crave 8 hours of sleep, but I do work best on 5-6 hours at least. Thanks in advance for your input!

Personally, I'd go for the sleep and try to go for brisk walk breaks and stuff during your studying.

I definitely agree that sleep's important.

i think you should get the sleep you need and fit working out into the time you would have spent doing other things, like procrastinating, chores/personal grooming, and if necessary, then time you would have spent studying for the LSATs. you don't need to study much for the LSATs, it's not a knowledge test that you can study for anyway. you just have to do some practice tests to get an idea of what they are looking for. i studied for the LSATs for a few hours on each of the last two nights before the test, and it was fine.

i know it seems tempting to just put off working out until "this is over" but if you are going to law school, "this" is not going to be over for at least three years, if not the next 40 years of your life until retirement. might as well start learning how to fit exercise in now. :|

Do all three, maybe? As a graduate student, teacher, and mommy I have to multitask, A LOT! Maybe you could sleep however much you need because, lets face it, you can't workout or study if you are exhausted. Then, you could bring your books to the gym and read while on the bike, eliptical... You won't get 100% workout, but at least your body is refreshed, you got in some kind of workout, and you won't have to worry about not working out :)

Thanks, everyone, for your great advice! I think I will take it easy just until my papers are done and start my workouts back up after that. BTW, Jen, I'm taking an LSAT prep course so the studying I'm doing is pretty much homework from that course. But yeah, you're right in that I should get used to fitting workouts into a crazier schedule. Thanks again!
