I'm the worst when it comes to this type of thing. I've been conditioned not to waste food!
Do you eat or throw away:
1) heels of the loaves >>> Usually throw it away, but I don't throw them away until I have a new loaf. If I need bread before I have a new loaf, I'll use it. (However, dh is doing Atkins and I'm No Grain so we've had no bread in the house since dd was born.)
2) broccoli stalk >>> Eat it
3) apple skin >>> Eat it. It's the best part!
4) crumbs at the bottom of whatever (cereal, chips, etc.) >>> Chips yes, cereal no, popcorn crumbs no
5) day old bananas >>> Yes! Even week old bananas or older. I stick them in the fridge to keep them as long as I can. Once I see fruit flies, though, I toss them.
anything else? Tomatoes with a bad spot. - I eat them Wilted, brown salad? - I pick out the slimey pieces and use the rest. The last few drops of a drink? - I don't drink the bottom of any beverage. Dinner at a restaurant that you can't finish? - pack it up and eat it the next day, Yes!
1) heels of the loaves ***Depends- I don't usually eat them, but Wes would always. No more Wes to eat my loaf heels though :( 2) broccoli stalk ***Toss it, usually, but I tend to leave longish pieces attached to the crown part, when I cut it up. Otherwise, I use pre-cut broccoli or frozen- fresh veggies when you're own your own sometimes end up going bad before you use them, so I tend to have to skimp and buy frozen. 3) apple skin ***Eat it- why not- it's fiber 4) crumbs at the bottom of whatever (cereal, chips, etc.) ***Toss 'em 5) day old bananas ***Well, unpeeled, bananas will last a few days. Once they'r peeled, though, they tend to get mushy within a few hours. I just eat the whole thing at once :)
2) broccoli stalk I buy broccoli crowns for roasting, if my mom cooks broccoli, we eat it all
3) apple skin the skin is the best part of the apple!
4) crumbs at the bottom of whatever (cereal, chips, etc.) I don't eat cereal..chips definitely! I also eat the powder from the bowl if I've sprinkled spice into popcorn.
5) day old bananas I've always eaten bananas before they went black.
anything else?
We scrape out EVERY LAST GRAIN of rice from the pot when we make it. It drives me nuts when people leave random bits all over their plate/bowl/pot.

1) heels of the loaves
We usually dry them out for bread crumbs.
2) broccoli stalk
We cut those up too and cook them with the "trees".
3) apple skin
That usually gets eaten.
4) crumbs at the bottom of whatever (cereal, chips, etc.)
I don't eat chips, but the cereal dust does usually end up in my bowl.
5) day old bananas
They've got to be really black for me to toss them.
anything else?
I don't think so.
Good idea with the bread crumbs!
