That does sound good! I like both the stock and the trees, so when I make broccoli I end up with my share of the trees plus everybody elses stocks. I get extra broccoli. Right now I can't stand the smell of it, which is really wierd.
Actually broccoli stalks are supposed to be excellent if you peel the outermost layer off before steaming and seasoning. Unfortunately I didn't learn this until after my dog developed an addiction to them. He dislikes most healthy people food so I'm not going to deprive him of one of the few he'll eat (he's nuts about frozen ones).
My cat will eat just about anything, although she's extremely fond of oatmeal & Mexican food, but the dog primarily likes junk food, especially popcorn, the only healthy stuff he likes pretty much are melon, broccoli butts, ww wraps and nuts. He'll eat salad only if there's honey-dijon dressing on it.
My fat cat will eat just about anything, but he's very good about moving away from the plate if he hears a stern "No." We don't generally give them people food since their insides don't react to it very well.
My older large-but-mostly-muscle-except-for-a-tiny-pudge guy is pretty much a cat-food only cat. However, when he was younger, he enjoyed maple syrup, frozen broccoli, and Captain Crunch Peanut Butter infused milk. At his present ripe old age of 9, he enjoys rubbing himself on vegetables but refuses to eat them.
1. I always toss the bread heels unless there are no more slices left.
2. Sometimes I'll gnaw on the stalks but I've always felt like I'm not supposed to eat them, so I'd usually throw them away. Now that I know it's OK to eat them, I probably will.
3. I always eat the apple peels, although alot of Asians like to peel their fruit before eating, even peaches!
4. I usually toss crumbs.
5. What does day old bananas mean? Is it when they start getting brown spots? I keep them for as long as I possibly can to use for bread, smoothies, etc.
Other things I save: If I make a pot of rice and there's leftovers, I'll usually put them in a baggie and freeze it for later. I have been known to pick out moldy parts in a slice of bread and just eat it, but that was when I was in a pinch. I also save Ziploc baggies and plastic tubs (the ones that contain butter or cottage cheese, etc.) by washing and reusing them.

my cat loves corn, chinese food, and soy cheese.

The description kind of hits close to home!!!
Jean,
1) heels of the loaves
I'm the only one in my house who will eat them. They are great for toast.
2) broccoli stalk
I only buy the frozen broccoli florettes.
3) apple skin
I eat the skin, and force my kids to do the same. :-)
4) crumbs at the bottom of whatever (cereal, chips, etc.)
Toss!
5) day old bananas
Mmmm ... banana bread ...
