I'm volunteering at a gold tournament fundraiser today so I won't be around (like I know anything about golf...).

I am kind of upset because my back hurts this morning - I deadlifted wrong again yesterday. It seems like I only get my hamstrings sore about half the time I deadlift, anyone have any tips? I make sure to squeeze my hams on every rep and keep my back flat, but to no avail. Anyways, today I will have to miss my usual Thursday boot camp class because I have a funeral to play piano at. I LOVE funerals, they are really minimal work and pay well. Then I will go to the gym for an hour and do treadmill intervals for 20 min and then bicep/tricep. Then tonight is my long night teaching piano.

Breakfast: forgot to defrost a new package of smoked salmon, so toast w/butter and Marmite, V8
Lunch: butternut squashs soup
Snacks: choice of coffee, Luna bar, Skor bites (heh) apple, banana, babybel, veggies & dip
Dinner: leftover chicken curry, brown rice

only 2 more days until vacation! i should just end my journal here, because that's the only important thing going on with me today.

i "hiked" 2.5 miles uphill on the treadmill today, that will be my last formal exercise for a while, though i plan on having a pretty active vacation.

food-

coffee, smoothie, black bean burger/avocado wrap

not much in the house for dinner - probably will eat the can of indian greens and grapefruit i planned to eat earlier this week and never got to.

I had my first appointment with the personal trainer at the gym at school this morning. She's very nice- luckily I ended up with a female! The first meeting, they actually do just a basic physical assessment test- taking blood pressure, doing a step test to check my pulse, the lovely "fat-pinching" which I]ll find out the calculations from next week, and how many sit-ups (crunches, really) and push-ups I can do. At least it was reaffirmed that I don't get winded easily, and I did better than the average on the sit-ups, and I managed to do 10 pretty decent push-ups (NOT military style!). So for the second half of the time, we actually went and did some of the weight machines for upper body. Next time, she'll add the rest, when we have the full hour. So I did a bunch of machines, and I actually did better than I expected! Tonight, I can feel it in my arms- not bad pain, of course. Yay!

Sounds like a great session! It doesn't surprise me that you don't get winded easily with your background. You're lucky to get free personal training!

Oh, it's not free- it's $50 for an hour-long session, but my gym membership is free, since I'm a student- so I guess in the long-run, it ends up being cheaper. Not sure how much a PT would cost regularly. What I'll probably do, is the next time I go (next Thursday), we're going to set up the rest of my weight-training workout, since we only did upper body this time. Then I'll just do it on my own for several weeks, and then go back for another session later on.

My best deadlift tips are to keep your knees slightly bent, squeeze your glutes like you have never squeezed them before, and keep your shoulders back and relaxed no matter how badly they want to come forward.
