Changing taste & empty calories

I had an interesting thing happen the other day. A friend at work brought in an Einstein's papaya bagel and she gave me a little piece. It was okay tasting but I thought, if I ate this, I would be so starving in an hour (this was my friend's breakfast). That's the sort of thing I would have scarfed several years ago simply because it was there. It tasted so nutritionally void to me. Sometimes I'll eat things that are obviously unhealthy (rich desserts for example) and I decide that they are emotionally nutritional. *grin* This was not. But there was a time when I would eat absolutely any bready-type thing you put in front of me.

It's not "calorie-worthy!"

I agree whole-heartedly here. I don't really eat much of anything that most folks consider junk, but if I do it has to be 'worthy'. I spend a little extra (be it money or the time to make it) & savour every bite completely free of guilt. Food is meant not only to sustain the body but to nourish the soul. Speaking of which I think I'll make some Depression cake w/ almond-mocha icing. (It's called Depression cake becuase it was created during the Depression & became very popular during the war years as it has no dairy or eggs in it. It's moist, tasty & vegan AND because I use spelt & ww flour it's pretty healthy too.)
