I totally forgot to ask about how the surfing went!

it was great! i went twice (T went one of those times) with two different schools, which each taught a different method of popping up. i caught a wave on my first try - it's actually really easy! i even caught a couple of waves by myself, without any push from the instructors. i don't know what my problem was last time we went, i think i was trying to get up too fast and maybe also a bit too early. those instructors in rehoboth didn't really do much instructing, they were just like "paddle and then pop up."

the first place i went was on the north shore of oahu and that was my favorite. it was an absolute blast. it was a perfect little wave

it's really fun, but i've only ever had such short rides. you stand up, and then a second later you have to get off before you hit the shore. in waikiki the surfers were getting such nice long rides, but they were bigger waves farther from shore. that's why i want to get good enough so that i can surf on my own and find some bigger waves and longer rides. also, i started to learn to turn, but i need to continue practicing - if you don't head directly into shore you get a longer ride. so it's fun, but it seems like it'd be even more fun if i got better at it and i want to

I can imagine that a skateboarder would be able to pick up surfing more easily. How cool that you both could do it!
