thursday journal!

i'm actually up early enough to start a journal!

i just got back from a 2+ mile hilly run (with a bit of a walk in there) -- i'm proud of myself because i've had a hard time getting back into exercising since my break but i managed to drag myself out of bed early to go running in the MORNING! i can't remember the last time i did this. but it's too hot and polluted now to run during the day, and it doesn't cool off until pretty late at night and anyway the smog lingers in the air even after dark, so if i'm going to keep running i'm going to have to get up early and do it. it'll be better anyway - exercising was taking up too much of my time before. now, with exercising mostly early morning and lunch time, i'll have more of my evenings free for other things. like slip n slide in the backyard with my friends.

anyway, that's all my exercise for today.

food-
half a big banana, coffee, soysage, flax waffle

smoothie, wrap

dinner at vegetable garden - probably "the usual" - vegan chik'in, potatos, broccoli, carrots and lima beans in curry sauce over brown rice, jasmine tea.

chocolate

while we are at veg garden we are going to stop at the skate store and buy me knee and elbow pads for skateboarding. i'm terrified of skateboarding but living 2 hours from the shore (4 in summer traffic) learning to skateboard is one of the few things i can do on a regular basis to improve my surfing skills. so i am going to suck it up and give it a go. i hope i don't break anything. it's funny because T likes to skateboard but is scared of surfing because of the ocean. i'm totally comfortable in the ocean and not scared of surfing at all but terrified of skateboarding. i'm the rational one - which hurts more, falling into the water or falling onto concrete!?!?

We are headed to Canyon de Chelly in Chinle, AZ. It's supposed to be absolutely beautiful. There's only one self-guided hike that visitors are allowed to do and any further exploration requires being accompanied by a Navajo guide. We'll probably do a jeep tour tomorrow.
